Question about credit for cell phones

Hello everyone I have Verizon cell phone for about 4 years now and its really old doesnt hold a charge for more than a few hours. So I wanted to know if anyone knows if I get a new one from Verizon do they have to check my credit again?
    Thanks again

I also have verizon and purchased a new phone and they did not check my credit. I would think as long as you are current on your bill you should be fine. Make sure to ask the about the "New every two." If you plan on staying with Verizon for at least 2 more years this may be a great way to receive a large discount or even a phone for free. But know that doing this puts you in a new contract, they will not run credit but you are then stuck with them for 2years. For me it worked but some people do not want to tied to a cell comopany.

Thank you for the info I will ask about the "New every two." Sound like a great deal.

I too use Verizon Wireless. As long as you are currently an account holder in good standing you can go right in an purchase a new phone for your existing account. If you open a new account then they may do another credit check.

Sounds good to me. I take it I should wait to do this after my discharge?

Unless you plan on spending hundreds of dollars to get a new phone I would wait. Otherwise go and get a new one. Check into the new every two offer. You can get some decent smart phones for less then $100 or less or you can get standard no frill phones for free.

Again, you need to renew your contract with Verizon for the credit. I'm one that doesn't like to go into contracts but I've had and have been happy with Verizon for over 5 years now and I don't plan on changing. Besides I get a discount through my employer for the month service charges.

debthater, I have been with alltel for over 8 years. Good payment records and all. Verizon is tempting me to come on over by doing what you suggested with the new every two offer, etc. I wonder if they do a check to change plans from alltel to verizon when we are already paying verizon since they own alltel?

                I can't answer that question.

We have been with Verizon for 8 years. We were current on our bill right before we filed for bankruptcy and we renewed our contract right before filing. When we filed there were some issues but that was because we were trying to add texting for my teenager for Christmas and they didn't add it.

They also closed down our account and assigned a new account number with a -1 behind the old account number. Service was never interrupted and we didn't even know they changed our account number until we found out they didn't add texting to our kids phone when we ordered it. Yes, we get new phones every two years. We also can upgrade the new phones for more expensive ones for fairly cheap when we are up for new every two.

I, too, have been with Verizon for years. My account number and service didn't change as a result of BK.

                    Michigan-
I'd definitely explore switching over to Verizon. The "New Every Two" is a nice perk (if you're willing to commit to a new contract). Verizon recently reduced rates ("unlimited talk" decreased $30/month...gotta love competition!). I'm unsure of the credit requirements; however, I believe a deposit is required in poor credit scenarios.

                      thanks,
I do have Verizon. I was sharing my experience when I filed. Verizon said once you file they have to give you a new account number (the old #-1). I would have never noticed the change if we wouldn't have had problems with them not putting texting on our kids phone.

If you already have a contract with Verizon, and it is not just a pre-paid plan but is a regular plan, then you should be able to upgrade your phone without another credit check, and even if they do a credit check, since you are already a customer, you shouldn't have any problems getting a new phone.
You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone. ~~Nate, Six Feet Under
