Well, the lawyer didn't make it since his wife was in labor. We went up to the trustee as she was setting up and told her the situation. She asked if we wanted to proceed and we agreed. She also mentioned that she really liked our attorney because he was a straight shooter, highly competent and that he was a trustee's dream. Whew!
Normal questions. I was surprised she brought up the fact that I quit a good paying job back in February 2008 and she asked me why. I told her that I quit to raise my children, which was the primary reason I quit. The other reasons were that I saw the writing on the wall with the new management and knew it was a matter of time before the office branch closed anyways (which happened 6 months later). But, I didn't go into all that. She followed up with asking their ages and I told her 1 and 2. She made a note of it and moved on.
Only other snag was that in my determination to be honest, I disclosed that I won some money in a casino last year - no major amount but it was still in a casino. She was a little ticked. She asked me what I was doing gambling. Valid question. Made me uncomfortable, but I understood where she was coming from. She actually waited for me to answer and I felt my face flush from mortification. Several answers went through my mind but they sounded more like excuses and I got the feeling she was a no nonsense kinda person so, I just took a deep breath, looked her right in the eye and said as humbly as I could, "Ma'am. I regret I have no good answer for that question". She added a few sentences about how bk is as fresh start and the debt counseling class we took should help us make better decisions, blah, blah. Hard to hear with the blood rushing in my ears. BUT, like I said, honest question from her.
At the end of the meeting, she looked at me and then smiled and said, "I know my questions can appear to be very probing and direct. I'm just doing my job and it's nothing personal. You WILL get your discharge in 60-90 days. I'm not going to do anything to hold that back. Good luck to you".
All in all, minus that one embarrassing moment, which I deserved, not bad. We were called first so I didn't see anyone else's case. There were 7 cases there. Just glad it's over now.
