BK 7 question about residency & VA

I haven't been here in a while but this forum was very helpful for me when we filed Ch 7 at the end of 2007. My mother is planning on filing for chapter 7 due to medical expenses, other debt. She has spoken with a lawyer who said she qualified for Ch 7. Right now her residency is in Michigan but she is considering moving to live with my sister in Virginia to save money on living expenses. Most of her income is from sporadic alimony from her divorce two years ago with a little supplemental income from a part-time job (all she can handle with her medical issues- she is also considering filing for disability but isn't sure if she would qualify for that).

Does anyone know where I can find information about whether she would be able to file in VA? Or if she is required to be a resident there for a certain amount of time?

She files where she lived the greater part of the previous 180 days.
If she wishes to use VA's exemptions, she'll have to be a resident of that state for 2 years. If not, she can use Mi.'s exemptions.
