When you apply to open a bank account you are giving them permission to check your credit as well as any other information that you provide on the application. This could include employment. There's lots of fine print on those applications.

update: i spoke to the supervisor today. she explained that they don't open accounts for people who filed bk. it's the bank's policy. i said it does not appear on my chexsystem report. she said they did get it from chexsystem.
i think she was just mistaken; their computer probably does a public records check and the bk comes up that way.
anyway, i asked if they would have told me this if i asked before applying. she said yes.
so the moral of the story is: don't apply to open a bank account after bk without checking first with the bank that they don't have a policy against opening accounts for people who filed. you'll save yourself a lot of time and trouble.filed ch7 May 09

Or open the account before filing. Banks seem to be more willing to have customers that are deep in debt and late on everything than those that are no longer under that yoke of debt.
There are a number of banks that do not use cheksystems, I know that compass bank was very BK friendly before they were bought out. Dont give up if you get shot down a couple timesStopped Paying CC 1/1/9
