Opening account in a bank included in bk

    Dear Folks

    Ch-7 waiting for discharge.
One of my creditor is citibank Visa card.
After discharge can I open a checking and saving account with citibank? Will they allow me to open an account with them? if they allow me to open an account with citibank, will they grab my money from the account because citibank credit card included in the ch-7.

Please advice me whether it is a good idea to open an account with them. Bank of America credit cards also included in the ch-7 but I don't like Bank of America. So my next choice is citibank.

    Thanks.

Citibank has an internal blacklist, and will not grant you credit if you ever charged them off or bk'ed on them.

But after discharge you should be able to get a checking and savings account with them. The relationship will not lead to an offer for credit though, unless you pay them what you owe them, even if the debt was discharged.

They will not grab your money if you open an account with them after discharge, and would be barred by law from doing so.

      Thank you for your message.

My wife has already a checking account with Citibank but she is not owing any money to them. She has already included in the bk. Will they note that point? If I include my name in her checking account (Joint) will the bank put any black dot on my wife?
Can I join in her account?

Did your wife file bk with you?

Are any of her citibank cards included in the bk?

You can join your wife's checking account after discharge without Citibank taking any money out of the account. They are barred by law from doing so.

If your wife has Citibank cards that were not included in the bk, then when she tries to add you to them, they will see your name on their blacklist and will not add you.

Yes. My wife filed bk with me.
Her citibank card is not included in the bk because the balance was zero at that time. But I found her citibank card was not available to use (She checked through online banking) that means they blocked her card because her name was in the bk.

They will close her account once they know of the bankruptcy, but she will not be blacklisted most likely, since she doesn't owe them anything. So at some point after discharge (several years down the road) your wife may be able to get another Citibank credit card.

You, however will be blacklisted if you have other Citibank cards in your name that you bk'ed on. If you are blacklisted, Citibank most likely will not add you to your wife's credit card, assuming it survives (which it probably won't).

Do you mean to say they close her creditcard account or checking account? I am not interested to join in her creditcard account but I was referring to join in her checking/saving account.

Do they close her checking account because of her bk where she doesn't owe any money to the bank?
