Does anyone know how long a trustee will monitor your finances after a chapter 7 discharge and cloture? Also, does any set period of time begin with the filing or the discharge?

I cannot speak for an individual Trustee. However, I have never heard of one who would or did. It would have to be something that red flagged FRAUD. These people are too busy to worry about your "new start". If you are using your new start as intended, you would have nothing to be concerned with anyway. Once discharged they are finished with you. Now, whether you'd be prosecuted for fraud later down the line, would usually only be something like... someone reported you.
Did you read this somewhere, or something?Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)

It is pretty much over with the discharge. The only exceptions are the case being re-opened for fraud (rare, very rare) and large inheritances within 6 months of the 341 (about four months post discharge for most people. Also in some cases, tax returns.
Other than that, in most simple chapter 7 cases they are pretty well done with you by the time they get to the 341. My attorney even said he had known trustees to just tell people at that meeting that they will get their discharge, but the wise trustees do not say that because they need to take one good last look at even the simple cases.
Something I have been reminded of thus far in the BK process is, I am just not that important! No one really much cares about my BK. I just found out that my credit score right before filing was an amazing (to me!) 710. My old bad debts were falling off and the stuff I was paying was helping my situation look a lot better than it really was on my credit reports. I had a tinge of regret, but quickly realized that I did what I had to do and I am way better off.Filed: 9/9/2009
341: 10/13, went well!
Discharged 12/17/2009
