How does BK affect my education?

I am filing BK (Chapter 7) sometime this month.
I applied a master's program in a State University. I am not sure how my BK affects the application.

Since I provided my social security number in the application, someway the school find out my BK filing.

Will my BK affect the admissoin significantly? Am I too sensitive?

i have never heard of a school looking up a person's credit history in deciding on admissions. i don't know if they check credit history before giving student loans. but they really don't need to because they are not dischargeable in bk anyway, they can go after you forever, so your credit history really shouldn't matter.

but for admissions, i really don't see a problem.

Admission is not affected by bankruptcy.

Government backed financial aid is not affected by bankruptcy. In fact, legally, the government cannot take your bankruptcy into account for government backed financial aid.

      You are fine.

        It's a little late but....Congratulation!

I am glad to know that my BK won't affect the admission and the financial aid in the future.

        Again, congratulations!

Thanks for the congrats sjcmCA! I am very relieved and very happy and grateful to be discharged.

I wanted to add a bit more info on school and bk. Your financial aid won't be affected unless you already have some student loans under this same school and program before bk. Then you would just have to fill out a new Master Promissory Note, since your filing bk negates the old one. This would not affect disbursement of your loans and is just paperwork that you have to fill out. But since you are just applying now, I am assuming that you do not have any student loans for this particular program yet.

As BacktoSchool indicates, your BK will not compromise your school admission and any government student loans; however, if you need educational funds via private loans (government loans usually don't cover it all as I well know having a daughter in college), that is an entirely different situation.
