Getting rid of a chunk of cash

I'm not getting any great answers out of my lawyer so I though maybe I could get some solid advice here.
I recently posted about a 14k back support payment I received. According to my lawyer it is still an asset and not exempt. I cant possibly file now.
My kid is turning 16 soon and I was hoping to use some of this to buy an extra car but I dont see how that is possible. I need to spend this money and in a way that won't be fraudulent but will possibly benefit me in the long run but I cant own anything of value either. This is ridiculous. How do I do this?

Or should I just wait another 6 months so the money is history?

Lana, it really helps to know what state you are in. There is a way to add this to your profile so it shows up to the left of the post.

My ex had some cash that needed to be spent before he filed and, with permission from his attorney, he "got his affairs in order" prior to filing CH7 and replaced his roof, furnace and AC with the cash he couldn't exempt. The trustee never questioned the purchases.
      CH7 Filed 2/26/2009 (no asset)
      341 Meeting 4/7/2009
      Discharged 7/10/2009
      Closed 7/28/2009

        Connecticut - just added.
I was thinking of something like that but I'm letting the house go. The car needs some work but only like 2k.
How i would love to withdraw the 14k and stuff in under my mattress. Not so easy i guess.
can i just pay all of my and my husbands bills from now on so that he saves a ton of money. is that wrong?

When I asked her she said it's still cash that I have. I wanted to file last month she had all my docs and was paid in full 4 weeks ago and every time I talk to her she needs more time to review my docs and can't advise me on anything til she does so. WTF. I'm not going to pay another lawyer another 2k now.
Maybe I should have gone pro se.

I'm not saying change lawyers. I'm saying to find one that does a free consultation and ask them ;)

                  Perhaps I will. Cant hurt.
I really thought I picked her carefully. Ton of experience, great reputation, she really seemed to know her stuff. I wish this woman would just review my file so I can finally get some answers. whats it gonna take? Does 4 weeks sound like enough time to review my file?
How was she ever gonna file this month or the last like she said, if she hasnt even reviewed my file yet.
For gods sake I just want to get it over with already.

You need a sit-down with this attorney. Tell her the child support is exempt, you can prove that the funds are from child support, they are in a separate child support account, the deposit will show it was from child support. Provide her with the exemption she must use to exempt these child support funds. It is time to get demanding, don't go spend the money until you get some solid answers. It is not "cash", it is funds in a child support account, an account specifically for child support. If she still doesn't get it, it might be worth paying 2k more to keep 14k.
