    So mad at Toyota right now ><

    Uggg! I need to vent a little... I'm so irritated with Toyota. I voluntarily surrendered my vehicle and they said someone would be in touch with me to set up an appointment to come get my car. Well, they just came and took it away last Saturday night. I still have the keys and the tags were still on my car. DMV requires me to return the tags in my state.

    So, I call Toyota this morning and they didn't really say anything and said call the repo company.... so, I left them a voicemail... no response... called them back a few moments ago and they said sorry it was a repossesion we do not have to make appointments with you bla bla... was very rude. She told me that the car has gone to auction with my tags still on it. Told me to call my finance company... I was like dude they told me to call you.

    So, I just called toyota back and I'm hold this very second and the dude was like "oh I'm so sorry we have a problem in that in the last few weeks people who have been voluntarily surrendering have been getting submitted as involuntary" .... I'm like WTF! He is attempting to call the people that subcontracted to the other people that came and got my car...

    I'm so pissed off! If I get stuck with a fine from DMV for not returning my tags I'm gonna send the fricken bill to Toyota.

    Why would Toyota be so lax with their property? This car is brand new bought in March of this year... its not a junker... so, now they are stuck without the keys and a very pissed off former customer.

    Did you file Pro Se? If not I'd call your lawyer and let him/her know what's going on. How frustrating!

      How much is the fine from the DMV? If the amount is small I would just pay it and be glad the mess is behind me.

        I would report the tag as stolen property. Tell the cops who did it and that your tags were stolen in a voluntary repo. They may not do much, but for the DMV, you would have a police report that should absolve your fine. 'Hub
        If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

          They were going through the motions. Whoever has your plates should return them to you. Hang in there.
          Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

            I'm not exactly on good terms with my lawyer since his office is the reason why I ended up surrendering the vehicle. They failed to submit my signed reaffirmation agreement with the court before my last day for objections. His paralegal screwed up and then he tried to blame it on me... even though I had email proof that it was his paralegal that was the dumb dumb.

            So, I wasn't about to keep a car for 5 years with no reaffirmed loan.

            Grumble grumble.... the toyota guy was very apologetic and gave me his name and number and says that he is trying to get the auction house to get the tags off the car for me. I also had some stuff in the trunk and they are saying that they didn't find any personal items.....

            Per Virginia DMV's website the fine for not returning tags can potentially put a negative mark on my driving record as well as fine. And I don't think the fine would be a 50 dollar slap on the wrist...

              There was news before... a repo guy was shot by a man with a shotgun in his driveway. After that incident, now these are new repo steps to be taken:

              1. Sneak out at NIGHT time (on stealth mission) and pull truck/car quickly and silently (in less than 5 minutes);

              2. The NEWER model or MORE EXPENSIVE car, the FASTER repo time NEEDED;

              2. No worry about keys nor tags ... better run for cover first!.. worry about them tomorrow morning!

              3. If owner call about key/tag,... return phone calls with EASE! ... and POWER!

                with ford and toyota we asked to do a voluntary repo- and they denied. They said the only way to do it was to let the company repo the vehicles. I was kinda pissed off, since that just adds fees.

                I don't have anything constructive to add- just that i empathize with the situation

                  Hmm...that's odd that Toyota said that to you... I was able to do it with no problem. Course, aside from them stealing my tags!

                    I dunno. When we surrendered our 2007 Durango we just took it to the Dodge dealership where we bought it ..took our plate off of it and locked the keys inside. Chrysler knew of our intentions and didn't have a problem with it. We did it this way so we didn't have to worry about them taking it while we still had our belongings in it.

                      I asked them if I could drop it off at the dealership and they wouldn't allow it. But at any rate, they just called me and said that they spoke to the auction house and they are very sorry and are mailing the plates back to me. So, I can at least rest now knowing that everything is done and over with that stupid car.

                        We didn't really give Chrysler an option... we just said "this is where you can pick it up" ... took it to the dealership after hours so we didn't even have to speak to anyone there.

                        Crazy thing is, on our credit reports it shows as "voluntary surrender. Paid in full" or something to that affect. It was a lease and I believe they sent us something showing we owed like $6K after we gave it back...unless they got what we owed on it (from auction) I don't know how it would be reporting as Paid in full

                        In any case, Amy, glad you got it worked out

                          Amy - sorry you had a problem. We didn't have any issues at all. We didn't have to keep our tags and turn them into DMV. And our repo guy was talking to me about filing for BK.

                          I would hold Toyota feet to the fire.
