For about 2 years I`ve been thinking about filing because I am so in debt it`s insane. I talked to a few lawyers but they wanted $1000 to $1200 which to me might as well be 10 million. Currently I am driving a taxi in New York city but it`s not enough as just about everything I make goes to rent (which I am 2 months behind in) I just can`t take it anymore, with the leins, the Marshal threats to break into my place and take my stuff, then trying to keep up with $600 a month credit payments, with the collectors I did make payment plans with, then paying off the IRS. I have come to the conclusion I have no choice but to declare BK because if I get sick or injured I`ll be out in the street in two seconds flat as I have no money saved or anything to sell. Is there anyway I can declare Chapter 7 myself? Thanks.

The Cheapest Way
Yes, you can file yourself, just as I did 9-14-09, pro se. Go to the Nolo site @ www.nolo.com and purchase their book on filing bankruptcy; you can even purchase it online. I think it's around 17.99. It takes you step-by-step through the whole process. You may want to download your forms from your local Bankruptcy Court website as the forms sometimes differ from court to court. I did it and so can you. Good Look.

You shouldn't do it yourself. Let someone else worry about the paperwork, etc. Just stop paying the credit credit cards and you'll have enough money in no time. You could stop paying everything and have the money even sooner. Read through the forum first before you jump and file pro se.Filed: 6-7-2010 341: 7-15-2010 DISCHARGED: 9/17/2010

I did it and without the N. book. You need to get the correct version of Adobe so that you can edit the bk forms. I'll say straight out it is not easy but if you have the time and pay attention to detail, you can do it. Good luck and keep us informed on your progress.Filed Ch7 5/28/09 (Pro Se) Orlando, 341 7/01, UST selected case for audit 7/01, Last day for objection 8/31. Audit report filed 9/10, no material misstatements. Discharged and closed 9/22/2009

Hire a lawyer, any mistake you make could be with you for eight years.I am a Pennsylvania Eastern and Middle District Bankruptcy, FDCPA, FCRA and Foreclosure Defense attorney, information I post is based on experience in these districts. It is not legal counsel, consider it friendly counsel.

Another way to save money might be to get the NOLO book and then hire a paralegal to fill out the forms for $300 or so. There are tons of firms that do this. As long as you are active on this forum and ask questions and have the NOLO book you can probably avoid pitfalls and be as well prepared as you would be with a $1000 bankruptcy mill attorney.
Of course ymmv, get recommendations before you hire anyone for anything. You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone. ~~Nate, Six Feet Under
