Process Server at my door after 9PM

Someone came to my door after 9pm. I'm positive it was after 9pm, because I got a phone call after 9Pm and they had just come to my door, plus my Lifetime movie had went off. They told me they were from a legal services company. But I refused to answer the door as it was dark and too late. I'm thinking it was regarding the properties that I'm giving back.

Does anyone know if they are bound by the same hours as Debt Collectors?

The good news is I've already filed BK, ch7 and my meeting is next month.

Aren't the servers supposed to serve papers to your lawyer, and not you? I'm new to this...I thought that's what happens when you hire a BK lawyer.

They can serve pretty much anywhere/anytime they can get ya.

Mine was at 11pm, from BoA.

Nice fella. We chatted a bit. He is getting paid crap money to do a terrible job. Has had people come at hime with knives and hammers.

Minimum wage. No gas per diem.

Felt sorry for the guy, honestly.

In our area, most of the serving is done by the County Sheriff Department deputies. They will come when they can find you. If you've got lights or a tv on, they assume you're awake and will knock on your door at whatever time. They are not bound by any timelines or restrictions.

Which Lifetime movie? Aren't they all the same script, different B-movie and washed up actors?

Script: Man hurts woman, woman becomes embolden, man tries to hurt woman some more, woman kills man, police arrive, woman is a hero.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

Years ago, I was served at my door at 11:00 PM. They can serve you whenever. Funny thing was that after all the drama of getting a judgement, they did nothing with it but pass the debt around for years. Finally I was threatened with garnishment, and I did pay on that debt for over a year via an agreement we worked out because I had a few hundred bucks a month but not a few grand for an attorney. I got serious about filing though when I was threatened with garnishment, no doubt at all in my mind then that I would do it, only a question of when. SO be glad you started the process already.

Gotta Have some pretend drama every now and then.

Ok, so I worked from home today and the doorbell rang. Opened the door, Nice Car in my driveway. They came back, a woman this time, she was nice. It was the mortgage company as I thought for one of the properties that I'm giving back, they want to reduce the redemption period since the property is vacant. The summons stated if I don't have any objection, then I don't need to appear. So glad I've already filed.

They can stick it where the sun doesn't shine for all I care. Why answer the door? BK will take care of this nonsense anyways my atty told me. Just waiting it out now. Actually enjoying the time off for the first time in my life.

Don't wait too long. Have you filed? If not, do not delay answering a suit summons. It will complicate things further and you do not need more stress than normal. 'Hub

                    Moral of this story:

                    Never, EVER, watch Lifetime movies.

In my state, Georgia, the process servers have badges and guns. We refer to them as deputy. They will serve you anytime day or night. And being this is a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm not sure I'd hide inside refusing to answer the door when they knocked.

Deputy Bubba would just tell the sheriff (his daddy, cousin, uncle or brother), I heard a scream inside so I kicked the door in and sure 'nuff I found this guy I was trying to serve in the bed. Must have had a nightmare. So I served him and tucked him back in.

Bell30656: OMG, rotfl! I know exactly what you mean! That is hillarious! I used to live in Alabama and I know some little towns wher that would surely happen. LOL! Thanks for the laugh!

On the other hand, man, if someone came to my door at that time, I would NOT answer it! No way, not in my neighborhood! Letting people out of jail and let too many police go this year! Crime is WAY up! My hard drive crashed in my computer and I didn't have my computer for 5 days. When I got it back, I decided to look up the local news and I looked at 2 days of the crime reports in my neighborhood and I couldn't look at anymore.
Scared me to death and I haven't slept well since!
4 women raped within a 2 block radius of my house! One was a 21 year old girl sitting on her steps waiting for a friend to pick her up. Some guy pulls up in front of her house rushes up to her, puts a screwdriver to her neck and raped her!
Another woman 47, pulled in driveway and 2 men rushed her as she was getting out of her car. Forced her in the house and BOTH of them raped her!

It's a scary scary world out there and it seems like it's getting worse! Half a mile from my house, the same week, they busted the biggest child porn ring they have ever seen here. All girls under the age of 13 and families all knew the perpetrators!

Sorry, got a little sidetracked. Must be cause it's late and I am scared to go to bed......
