Considering that most employers are going paperless for their payroll/W-2 services - The Work Number is a prime example - trustees are going to eventually have no choice but to accept computer printouts of these documents. I expected a fight from the trustee because all my paystubs were pretty much printouts. Our company went paperless in 2005, and discontinued paper checks in 2006, opting to go to a debit card for pay checks if one didn't have a checking account.

I think paycheck stub copies are fine (unless you are trying to use them to show proof of SSN) with the vast majority of trustees. They balk at copies of your DL, W2, any form of ID or social security number being a copy I think.

Nothern Ohio- we needed to bring our SS card and DL.

As for going on your lunch with the birth certi. Makes sure it's a certified copy the SS office might not accept it otherwise.
Can you order it on line?

        Good Luck.

No need to order a birth cert online here, we just get them at the government centers. I think my copy is certified but I will double check.

Yup, has the "true and official" language on the certificate and the registrar's signature. Kinda nice how the people on this forum help you think of everything

Ok, for all my fellow MN filers who might stumble on this, here was the "official" world from the Hennepin County Clerk on what is acceptable proof now of SSN:

              1. SS Card, ORIGINAL, no copy of course.

              2. W2 Statement, original and generated directly by the employer. These are the envelpoes you get in the mail from the employers to file your taxes NOT anything computer generated. Must be most recent tax year.

              3. 1099 from most recent tax year only.

              4. Social Security statement or a printout from the Social Security office.

NO Paycheck stubs accepted, no copies of anything, SS Office printouts must have there SS office stamp on them (look for it, they sometimes forget she said!).

Paycheck stubs for proof of income can be copies, computer generated, whatever but no paycheck stub even an original can be used for proof of SSN.

Now, after all that I still went to the SS office today and ordered up my card and got my receipt with stamped printout, even though I have an original W2 Just parinoid, I guess. They said it can take two eeeks here to get the card, but with the SS printout to back up the W2 I have done all I can and am no longer worried (on that count anyway).

Now, if I could just get past my 341 alright...

Yes, I found out I needed my SS card and went down to fill out the paper work.. It came in the mail in a week, but be prepared to wait in line for hours unless you get there when they first open.

Well, even though I found out the opposit (I do not need it, just one of the forms of proof mentioned in my previous post) I went down today to get it, and the wait was not bad. I went at lunch time too and it was a city office.

Leena, just out of curiosity, please post what you actually needed after your actual 341. It`s great for you to be prepared, but seems like all the worry ends up for naught for most people. Good luck to you.

I will do that! I have been doing MUCH better with the stress of it lately, but I have my waves of worry.

I will let everyone know how it went-and what I needed to present come the evening of the 13th!

Not sure I like that the date is the "13th"... Why not the 12th, the 14th...
                        Just being peculiar I guess

At my 341 the trustee accepted the receipt from the SS office along with a W2 as proof for a couple that went before us. Good luck!

At the clerk's office here, they were very clear that either one of those items by themselves would be sufficient proof of SSN. I really think the problem most have had with W2's is that so many now are computer generated, and those are just far to easy for someone with basic computer skills to alter. Alo, the SS receipts/printouts need the stamp of the SS office that issues them, and people come in with those missing, too.
