Everyone here is talking about Capital One closing their accounts post BK, and I know they do that. The crazy thing is that they then turn around and offer post BK's credit in a big hurry. A friend who filed BK had her zero balance Cap 1 card cancelled, then not 4 months later they offered her a card with a 1500 limit at 19% interest! Go figure...
I agree with all those here who said take your lawyers advice on when to file. Oh, and as much as we slam "BK Mill" attorneys around here, make sure the lawyer is very experienced in BK. I have heard some tales about "friend" attorneys working a BK outside their area of practice and getting a friend-client in a mess.
My advice about the credit card thing in general is, ask yourself why you even want to keep a credit card. I think sometimes this whole thing about "building your credit" with another card can be an invite to the begining of more trouble. Much as they talk now about tighter credit, tougher standards, whatever I know that banks hungry for interest are going to keep on passing out the credit cards to the formerly bankrupt, particularly as the economy eventually improves. Question is, who needs them?
