wanted to give you all an update

Hi Guys,

It is coming up to year since I filed chapter 7... Oct 31st 2008. It was hell, I stressed so much, i cried, I could not eat I am a worrier and it tore me apart, we discharged 150K worth of debt.
We surrended our cars and 1 week after discharge we got approved for a nice small car loan ant a decent rate, capital one and orchard bank approved us for credit cards .......... we also forclosed on our home...
in that time I have saved $20k in savings, I use each of my cards to pay one bill a month ie cable or electric and pay it in full 2 days later i use it to build credit...... I am renting a gorgeous home with our dogs and life is fantastic!!! I have savings, no debts except a small car loan..I will never never carry a balance again..... Life feels too good like this...my stress is gone, I am excited every day i am careful on what we spend, I hate waste.... no atm fees etc etc I plan I budget, we just paid cash for a fantastic vacation.... first time in 5 years we had one....
my christmas money is saved.........

so my message to all is....... there is a light at the end of the tunnel...learn well from this horrible time..... and move on to your fresh start and do things right the second time around.....

That sounds wonderful B65. I'm extremely happy to hear things are going great. BK is not the end of the world, but instead offers a fresh start to honest deserving people.

I will be the first to admit that I initially approached BK kicking and screaming but I am now very happy I did it because it helped me put spending and living within my means into perspective. Living on a cash only basis is the only way to go.

Thank you for giving me some hope. I do not remember the last time I was able to purchase Christmas gifts on anything but I credit card, I can not wait!!

What a wonderful story. Sounds like you are doing what the Courts expect after the new start but so many people have a difficult time breaking old habits. I just hate seeing repeat bkers back. I know stuff happens but you got the plan. We feel the same and except for wishing or caring to build our credit, we have no cards (except debit that quits when no money is there. LOL). When the need for a car comes up, I figure I can throw one equivalent car payment towards the old car and get it fixed. The wheels are still on it so I won't need to change it for years.

Like so many others, I just want to thank you for taking the time to come back here and tell us how you are doing. It can be depressing to see all the people that file multiple times, and it is good to know it does not have to be that way.

Congrats to you, for using your fresh start to turn things around in your life and make positive changes going forward.

Thank you sooo much for sharing! You are exactly where I want to be a year from now. Life is already so much better, but it's a bit scary! It's baby steps, we just took a modest vacation but paid for it in CASH...I just keep reminding myself of that. We paid for my son's birthday in CASH...these are big deals to us...
