Be sure to thank your 2005 congressional representatives for this waste of money. They are the ones that voted in Feb 2005 to mandate the pre-filing credit counseling class with a hidden agenda to deter or at least slow down those who need to file bankruptcy.
By the time the pre-filing class is taken, 99% of people are way too far under financially for the class to actually help them avoid bankruptcy. Think of completing it as just one more box to check before you can file, because essentially that's all it is.

I think it was all about taking more money from the poor. Just another way for the financial companies to capitalize on the poor and unfortunate. $50 per filing really adds up. Imagine all the money they make from it.
If it were really about helping the debtor it would be provided free or at a much cheaper cost, possibly by non-profit groups.
