So I have a strange question, I just filed last week (341 on 9/22) and now I need to go to the dentist. My COBRA has not kicked in yet so I may need to lay out some money to get a tooth taken care of. Is this showing preferential payment if I pay a dentist because my insurance is not activated yet (I would end up getting partial payment back). Thanks for your help!

Question about Dentist After Filing

You have already filed, and now need medical treatment. It is reasonable to have a procedure done, and to pay for it.
It would show preferential treatment IF you owed the dentist for treatments that were done before you filed, and then paid that bill while forgoing others.
I ran into the same thing, and ended up paying a dentist a week after filing. My lawyer said it wasn't a issue because the monies paid were for treatment after filing.8-07-09-filed Chapter 7

And for those who might be wondering......no, the bill cannot be included in the just-filed bankruptcy because the dental services will be provided AFTER filing.
Hope your teeth get to feeling better soon, STM.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
