    Chapter 7 to Government Employee

I am pretty new here and getting a lot of information. I really appreciated.

I am seriously thinking of BK in 3-5 months due to several reasons (my wife got laid off, over 15% reduction in my income, CC debts, etc.)

Since I am a local government employee in CA (city employee), I am wondering if there is any special circumstances would apply to me after filing BK.

Would there any special disadvantages to the public employee?

For example, demotion, hard to get promotion in the future, especially much harder to move to another government in the future?

Someday, I thought that I can move to another governent, state or federal, but should I give up all these career plan next 10 years?

I have never thought of BK in my life, but I really know that I should realize my situations unexpected.

    Any idea or experience?

Again, I really glad to know that I am not alone.........

Hmmm, when I filed for BK my lawyer was aware that I was a govt employee. He did not say anything that would affect my career and said that everything should go fine as proceeded. You could ask during an attorney consult if you are concerned about your government career.

    Best wishes!

Please think positive and do not give up!

If you accept gov't bids or need a security clearance or work directly with money, it could affect things. But that is mostly for new employees, that have to go through a background check for the first time.

If you are just a regular gov't employee that doesn't need a security clearance you should be fine.
You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone. ~~Nate, Six Feet Under

My ex filed ch7 about 1 yr after the divorce and at the time, was a GS12 working for DOD with TS clearance. Since then, she has been promoted and is now a GS14 so don't think bk is an issue unless it affects job performance.
Filed Ch7 5/28/09 (Pro Se) Orlando, 341 7/01, UST selected case for audit 7/01, Last day for objection 8/31. Audit report filed 9/10, no material misstatements. Discharged and closed 9/22/2009
