Still no offers in the mail

I remember reading about people getting all kinds of offers in the mail right after filing. Well, we're getting close to 2 weeks after my filing and so far not one single offer from any car dealer has come up or anything of the sort.

Do some people get offers right after filing while others only get offers right after discharge?

In my other posts I talked about my attorney trying to keep me in our cars as long as possible. But we have to be prepared in the event he's full of it and can't deliver on his offer. So if worst comes to worst and our cars are taken away from us within 6 weeks of filing from the banks getting a lift on the automatic stay, then I am wondering how we will replace our cars. Don't all the car dealers want to see "DISCHARGE" on your credit report before selling you a car? If you file on January 1st and by February 20th your cars are taken and you're not expected to see a discharge until say March 7th, then how can you finance a new or used car? Then you're stuck for several weeks or a month or so with no car.

What have people here done about this during that small period of time between having no car and the discharge date? How did you get around?

We have 2 cars now, but I only plan on having one car for a while after both are taken. I have no need for 2 cars right at the moment. We just need one for grocery store and errand runs. But I want to buy a car that I will keep for 7 to 10 years, so I don't want to throw money into a beater car that will cost thousands to fix transmissions and the air-condition. I want something like a 2007 or 2008 model.

I filed on Wednesday of last week. Today was the first time I have picked up my mail since Wednesday. There were 3 offers for car financing

WOW! And I got ZERO!! I must be REALLY on the $hit list BIG TIME!

I take this as a bad omen that I probably will have a hard time getting financed even after a complete discharge. Talk about a major buzz kill. UGH!

DM...I assume you aren't too worried as your attorney will keep your BMW safe from repo for 2-3 years. I'm sure by then your credit score will be in the high 700's and financing a car will be a breeze.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

I don't care if they take the BMW. I rarely ever drive it. I don't think we've put on 500 miles on it and the past 2 months. We only use it for trips. It's my small sedan that I drive daily because it gets better gas mileage and doesn't require premium. Even though it's not as nice of a car, it costs less to fill up and drive. I use this car almost every day to run errands.

We were leasing a 2007 Durango (with 1 yr left on the 3 yr lease). The payment was not affordable so right before filing we surrendered it back to Chrysler and went and bought something that was affordable (2006 Chrysler Town & Country). Instead of trying to keep the durango for as long as we could & hope that they wouldn't just take it while I was in a store shopping one day, we decided to play it safe and just take it to the dealership we bought it from. We were also 2 months behind on it tho.

Are you sure you are "opted in" ? If not, then you probably won't receive any credit offers.

How do you get opted in? I never opted out of anything other than the do-not-call.

I put a fraud alert on my credit report last year, but that only lasts 3 months. That should have nothing to do with the offers, right?

Didn't you just move recently? Maybe they can't find you.

I'm not getting not a drop of solicitations either. But I have filed twice, so maybe there are not creditors left that want to hit me up.

I thought the car dealers buy names and addresses from a company that hits the bankruptcy filers and makes offers to them?

Somebody posted a link to a company that sells names and addresses of recent filers. It was like $114.00 per 1,000 names or something like that.

I just feel better with the opportunities being there whether I buy a car or not.

Do you remember how long afterward?

I am guessing that if I were to get discharged in October (a big "IF"), then by the 1st or 2nd week of November I should start getting offers then?

Hopefully they will have good deals on the 2009's as they try to blow them out for the 2010 models.

DM We had our 341 last week and on that exact day, I received a postcard from a company called "722 Redemption".

                            That was it.

Could you guys scan some of your offers and post them here as JPG's? Like put them on one of those free sites for JPG hosting like FLICKR or whatever.
