    I thought they were open now that they changed from Grand Central to Google Voice?

    Like I said in another post, I am using a new Viatalk.com phone now. Viatalk works just like Vonage for about 1/3rd the price. It can not only block numbers, it can forward them to different phone #'s based on the caller ID. So if you wanted to, you could take all of the collection agencies and simply forward them to your attorney's office so that way your phone doesn't ring.

    Man, I know all about that working 3rd shift. That is NO FUN! Getting a call in the day is the same as a normal person getting phone calls at 3 or 4 AM.

    The only thing about Viatalk is that it's $265 out the door. But they had a special when I got in... that gave you 2 years phone service for that. $265 divided by 24 months of service = $11/mo. vs. Vonage of about $34/mo.

    If all of you could get on Google Voice, you would all have such fun stories to tell from your experience with it!

        That's mean for you to withhold this information. Any time you find a service that's equal or better quality than you can find in conventional places, you need to get the word out and tell people about it. Lots of people don't know about this stuff and if you add up all of the savings from using services like Amsoil and Viatalk over a year's time, it can come out to hundreds of thousands of dollars. For somebody facing bankruptcy, those hundreds of dollars could put food on the table.

        Let's say a person from here bought a nice house out in the suburbs (like millions of people have done around the country) and commutes a good distance of 20,000 to 25,000 miles per year. This same person could also be spending $60 to $100/mo. for their home phone and what not.

        Here's examples of the same person not knowing about these 2 money saving products spending the money throughout the entire year over a 12 month period:

        PERSON A
        =======
        Let's say 8 oil changes at $34.95 (that's what the local place here charges.)
        And let's assume the phone bill was $63/mo. (that's what my mom's was for the longest time for her home phone.)

        8 x $34.95 = $279 for the year in oil changes
        12 x $63 = $756 for phone charges
        =====
        $1,035 spent on 2 regular things for the entire year

        PERSON B
        =======
        Here's the same person using these money saving products:
        1 oil change with the Amsoil: $70 (covers the same 20,000 to 25,000 miles as the 8 oil changes of the cheaper stuff)
        12 months (average cost) of the Viatalk: $132
        =====
        $202 spent on 2 regular things for the entire year

        So the person B has done absolutely nothing but switched to different brands and is now saving $800 over person A. Person B is not getting any less service than person A. Person B is actually getting greater service because he/she can now call Canada for free and has a bunch of new features on the phone not offered by other companies, plus is getting better gas mileage which is also saving on fuel at the pump. Person A is getting the same gas mileage as normal and not saving any additional fuel.

        The issue is here, that Person B could have never saved this kind of money without people telling him that these services exist since the products are not widely advertised. They are only done through word of mouth.

        If you have any other products or services that are able to do what these 2 I just gave in the above examples, that would be great! I'd love to see one person change products or services from whatever they are using now and try to save a whopping $5,000 per year. Now that would be significant!

          You know I wasn't trying to be mean, or purposely "withhold" information. Geez.

          Yes, we all want to save money, but to react in the last post the way you did was a little uncalled for. None of us wanted to be in this situation or expected to ever be in this situation (bankruptcy). But here we are nonetheless.

          All I wanted to point out is one could take Google Voice's features a little further to create specific messages for them.

          Please forgive me if I'm just taking this wrong, I know how easy it is take things wrong on internet forums.

            I have no clue what you're talking about.

            I was just giving 2 product examples that would almost anyone who had a home phone or a car a lot of money.

            This post was not directed at you personally, it was directed to all of the people who keep these to themselves.

              I was hoping you weren't directing it at me, just since you quoted me on it, and said it was "mean for you" I took it as such. Like I said it's easy to misread intent sometimes on these forums (this goes for any internet forum).

                Viatalk seem to have a lot of complaints at dslreports.

                  Serious? It's been working pretty good for me. What complaints did you see specifically?

                    FIA Card services just called me today.(i have been picking up the phone then hang up real quick before) They said today was the last day before my account went into collections. Anyway I told them i was filing BK and they said "oh ok just give me the attorney info so we don't call you anymore". I gave them the info so lets see if they don't call. There were nice about it so if you retain an attorney you can let them handle the calls.

                      Yeah, right after I hired an attorney, all of the creditors and collection agencies seemed to be nice about it.

                      Today some guy called me up from my Shell card trying to sell me some credit watch thing. He kept going on and on and on and wouldn't let me get 2 words in before he finished his speech. Then by the time he started to validate my name and address, I told him that I just filed bankruptcy and couldn't do anything. That pretty much ended the conversation right there.

                      So if any telemarketers ever call you, that's a good tactic! Tell them that you just filed BK a few weeks ago and that all of your credit cards are shut off. END OF STORY. It worked great for this phone call today!
