So dh has finally decided to give up my car

He was dead set on keeping it and the $592 a month note.

I had decided to go back to school and I had talked him into buying me a small car that would get good gas mileage. My Jeep only gets 16 mpg. Anyway he finally agreed and then....

I found out that I'm PREGNANT! We still need to get a smaller note. What can you guys recommend that will seat 3 kids in the backseat- 2 in carseats and still get decent gas mileage? Before my Jeep I had a Chevy Malibu and that was a no go for a rear facing carseat. You had to put the carseat in the center and the front passenger had to sit in the dash.

    Congrats on the new beeb.

With 3 kids, I'd personally go for a mini-van. I'm not a fan of them normally but they work well when you have more than a couple of kids. It'd be cheaper than that Jeep payment too. ;)

      Thanks!

That's what I want but dh heard on the radio that 1 of the most traded in vehicles for the cash for clunkers are minivans

I don't know why. I'll have to research it some more.

Mini vans are the way to go if you have 3 kids and 2 in car seats. They are big enough for all the kids, get decent gas mileage and there is lots of storage room.

People are probably turning them in because they drove them into the ground and are ready for a new car. No biggie.

Word of advice, dont buy a Chevy Venture. Ford Windstars and Dodge Caravans are good and as always Honda, Toyota and Nissan are excellent.

          Congratulations on the baby!!!

I help my neighbor out a lot with her three girls (one two year old and 11 month old twins!) when her car was repossessed we were able to get all three of their car seats into my Kia Sophia with out issues. One is a forward facing britax roundabout and the other two are graco infant seats to give you an idea of sizes. The single stroller and twin stroller were a tight fit but they also both fit in the trunk! A mini van will make your life easier, yes. But you CAN do this in a sedan also! Grocery shopping is a bit tricky if you forget to take out the strollers before you left the house but you have the front passenger seat to put the bags in till you get home. Decide what you can afford first. Then look at what you'll get. I went van shopping with her and was amazed how much more a mini van is. If all you can afford gives you a beat up van or a good condition sedan know that you can do this is a sedan.

          Best of luck!

Still learning all of this, but glad I've found this site! Thank you all for your advice and patience!

Thanks guys! I've found a nice used 05 Nissan Quest. It has 59000 miles and they want $13K for it. That would drop my note drastically.

I need to save up my Jeep note to go towards my down payment. How long do you think I can drive it without paying?

I'd say you're right and some of those older ones are probably not as fuel efficient as the newer ones too.

I have a couple of friends who only have one child but they have minivans & are happy with it because of the convenience and because later on, their kids will have friends from school sleeping over and they'll need the extra room. LOL

O so glad hubby finally gave in. You think you will be able to get a loan with a good enough interest rate to get your payments down? Another thing to remember is your insurance will probably go down if you buy a later model car.

I have a 1999 Toyota Sienna Minivan and I love it. I bought in brand new on 5/12/99. I remember the date because it was the first car I bought and paid cash for. I've never been the best driver. What I like about the minivan is I sit up higher and can see the curbs. Thus, no big rub marks from going around the corner like I had with my Chevy Caprice Classic.

It has 4 captain's chairs & the far back seats will hold 3 people & has seatbelts for 3 people. I think the retail value on my van is around $5,300. I'm hoping because the far back seats have been removed & a remote controlled electric lift was installed so I can, by myself, get my scooter in and out of the Van.

Even when the backseats were in, there was still plenty of room to put lots of groceries behind the seats.

I'm scared of SUVs. Everytime I read the paper about an accident with one, they have rolled over. I think maybe some of the newer models have adjustments made for that not to happen.

I'm confused, did the jeep get discharged in the bk? Did you reaffirm the loan?

Usually you need to be 60-90 days late before they start repossession paperwork on you. Not sure how long it takes to to be repossessed guess it depends on the company you are dealing with.

I'm doing a ride through on the Jeep. The finance company never realized we converted to a Ch 7 so they never tried to get us to reaffirm with them.

O My Goodness, Aces, I didn't read your post carefully and I apologize.

                      (((((((((((((((((CONGRATULATIONS!))))))))))))))))) ) on your pregnancy.

It tickles me pink to hear a lady is going to have a baby. I only have One Son who was 36 on 7/27, but I have 3 precious grandchildren - a granddaughter who is 11, and two grandsons, 7 and 9 yrs. old. I love them dearly and they love their Mimi (me)! Speaking of them, they didn't call me this weekend. Guess Mimi will call tonight and talk to all 3 of them.

                      Again, Congratulations!

                      Hugs,
                      Luci
