They are not one-sided at all. There are literally MILLIONS of people who agree with me. I'm not going to go knocking on all of their doors. Just come to South Florida and meet all of the people who moved here from New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Maine, etc. They all tell me the same thing that they would never move back. That's the entire basis for my posts! I just didn't make this stuff up on a whim. This was my lifetime of talking to people who moved from up north to here.

I'm not hitting refresh. Every time a post is made, it sends me an email.

Also, I do have a lot of time. All I do is sit home 24 hours per day. Remember, I'm unemployed. I have nothing else to do than to check email. I'm just enjoying my forced retirement and loving it!

All of my family is from up north. I have bugged them many times to move back up there and only 1 person has moved up there out of like 40 people.

My cousin went there with him and moved back to Florida. He said he couldn't take the snow and it was a pain because it was hilly and the car would slide down the hill in the snow and stuff. Whatever.

Florida is only bad a couple months out of the year. The rest of the time it's nice.

Are you unemployed by choice or was it just your wife that quit to lower your salaries? When you do your bankruptcy do they look into if you were actually laid off from your job or not? I noticed you said you haven't been working since 2007. Did you get injured?

I love the snow when I have an AWD vehicle, not a FWD or RWD one. When I lived in Chicago, I thought it was fun. But nobody else I know in Florida ever talks of moving back up north. I don't like the salt they put on the roads. I hated having to wash my car every 1 to 3 days, especially on the days when it was like 2 to 6 degrees outside. You have to enjoy pain to want to endure that all the time (i.e. you're a masochist and just don't know it or won't admit to it.)

We both quit our jobs. The UST doesn't ask how or why you lost your job.

My wife's mother came down with cancer so we moved to be closer to her. She ended up dieing a few months later.

So if the UST were to ask why we left, that will be our main reason. Family comes before jobs.

I have my resume on Monster and Dice, but nobody ever calls. If they want me, they know where to find me. I'm not going to go and compete with 500 other applicants. Been there, done that. That's a total waste of my time. There's always somebody better than you. If they like what they see on my on-line resume, they can call me and do a phone interview and I'll accept their job if it pays over $45,000/yr. (which is less than I am making now as I stay home and sleep and I have the 1099's to prove it.) If not, I will just stay home and sleep as late as I feel like it. We come and go as we please and try to leave the house when the traffic is low. You get spoiled once you get used to this lifestyle. I don't like people barking orders at me all day. Then I have to go and buy all expensive clothes to go to work. Right now I just chill out 7 days per week in a T-shirt and shorts as if I were going to the beach. It goes without saying that I don't miss the stress of a day job whatsoever. The long commute times. The dealing with A-hole co-workers that I can't stand being with or working with. And I am told that's just the way life is and you have to deal with it. WRONG! I'm not dealing with it. That's why I am staying home and make thousands per month instead without stepping foot out of my house. I know you guys hate MLM's (most people do), but when they pay out, they pay out well after you've put a lot of effort into them for years.

I make more money with my home business than I do a day job, so it's not like we have $18 in our checking account forever. Eventually some money will come our way and then our checking account's batteries are recharged.

You seem to hate all corporate life. You definitely are not working for the right companies. I come and go as I please, with options of working at home when I need/want to, with health insurance, paid vacation, and dress (mostly) however I want.

I also lived in Germany. The tax rate is higher but I was making the same amount (after conversion) and calculating what I was spending on health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket budgeting for health expenses. Plus I think I would get $150 euros per month for every kid I had (if I had one). Not tax rebates/reductions but actual cash payout. Life is humble there. No big cars, no big houses, very bare universities.

yea, Denmark was like that too....everyone was "middle class". Course Germany I think is much better off than Denmark. We were on the western side of Denmark and everyone was always going to Germany to buy stuff cause it was cheaper. My husband's family was always heading over there. It boggled my brain to hear people saying things like "we're going over to another country today to buy stuff, see you later"... being from the US and having never gone to another country ever it was quite strange for me to hear things like this...or lets take the train to Paris...

- Don't try to buy expensive things just because your friends or family do
- Don't care what other people think. If they are not paying your bills, they can put up or shut up.

My company is self owned. Therefore I am one of the owners b/c I have stock. And I've never had to ask for time-off. I just put a notice on my Outlook calendar so people know when I'll be out. I don't have a boss at all. None. That is why I can come and go as I please. And I am getting paid what I am "worth" for my 30 hour week.

You, however, are cheating the bankruptcy system. You are funneling money into your MLM pyramid scheme to fake that you weren't making tons of money. Once it fails, you'll be looking for a day job or making your wife go to work to support you.

My uncle lives in Gloversville, NY and said that they have houses in his neighborhood for around $25,000. He has a colonial house on a 1.25 acre lot that he paid $55,000 for around 5 years ago. He said they have a handy man special for $16,000 nearby.

If I was desperate, I could save up the cash in a few years and move up there and have a house with no payments.

The only thing is that the state income tax for New York is 6.85% So if you make $55,000/yr. and live in Florida, you pay zero. If you move to New York, it will cost $3,700 year to live there. Talk about a scam! I CAN'T STAND TAXES. Once you get used to NOT paying them, it's too hard to go around to paying them. The issue is, you can't buy houses here for $25,000 to $55,000.

Yes, but you're getting a house for pennies on the dollar what would cost in South Florida, there's a trade off for both lifestyles.

I live near Gloversville, and the real estate situation is the same here unless you want a brand new McMansion and they're going for $200,000-300,000 which is still cheap.
