Changing Jobs or getting a part-time job

Okay, I filed on 10/12 and I'm still waiting on the 341 meeting date.
I was just offered a job making more money and they want me to start ASAP.

My lawyer is at lunch at the moment ( I did leave a message) but wanted to see if anyone else went through this?

Am I allowed to take the job or would that just kill the BK?

Also, how about getting a part-time job for the holidays?

    Thanks,

    IndySteel

This is an area of interest to me as well.

I'm in a similar situation as you are IndySteel.

The way I understand it, is that any new employment during BK that could result in more "disposable income," could potentially be a problem as the Trustee may notice this and try and bump you into a Chapter 13 instead.

If that's the case, it kind of puts one in a hard spot employment wise.....

I'd honestly like a little more information on accepting new employment during the BK process as well.
10/12/05 - Chapt. 7 Petition filed with court. (DONE)
    11/21/05 - 341 (DONE)
11/22/05 - Trustee's Report of No Distribution!!! :clapping:
1/21/06 - Last Day for Objections

    2/1/06- DISCHARGED & CASE CLOSED!!!!!

When I filed for my BK-7 in June, I asked my attorney if I could get a part-time job to make ends meet. I was told that I needed to wait until after I filed to ensure that I didn't have too much disposable income. I think that anything after filing is okay. Also, I received a 'substantial' raise just after I filed, and everything was okay. I knew that I was going to receive a raise, but didn't know when it would appear on my check. We had to rush my filing, and what do you know, the raise hit after my filing. When the trustee asked if anything had changed since filing, I explained that I had a pay increase. He didn't ask any other questions about it.

Well, it depends. How much would this increase your income? Is it SOLID? (Non-commision)

I don't believe a 10-15% increase would be all that much. But your lawyer would know, however, it is YOUR life.

Our lawyer told me I HAD to wait to get a part-time job. Right now my hubby's income is our only income. I wanted a little something on the side for Christmas and he said nope no can do!!!
About income increase is no big deal they can just adjust it on your petition, however if it throws your expenses/budget out of whack, you may want to hold off if possible. See what you lawyer says he knows your case inside and out.
          Good luck

Okay, so I got word from my lawyer about the issue.

She said that I could take the job but we would have to send that info to the courts and we would have to adjust everything. So, she said that it could be dismissed, or turned into a chapter 13.

This job is only a 1 year contract not a full-time job so I think I might pass on it. Plus the last time I worked there my job was sent overseas and my contract was cut short.

            Thanks,
