Just found out something interesting I thought I would pass along.
My bk was filed on 6/12 and all traces of my mortgage with Chase was wiped from the "My Accounts" page on their website.
On 7/1/09 the date my next mortgage pymt should have auto-debited, there was no action taken where I now hold my checking acct. I waited 3 days to make sure it wasn't coming out, and I made the payment at my local Chase branch.
When I spoke to Chase customer service later that day, they informed me when a bk notice is recieved, all auto debits stop.
This suits me fine, I have no problem going 2 miles up the road to drop off a check.
Well yesterday I go in to make my payment, they take it and give me a reciept.
Today I log onto my checking account and see a fund transfer from my savings to my checkings, an OD fee and a transfer fee(sadly/luckily there wasn't enough in my savings to cover a payment).
I went to my bank and looking into the file they saw an auto-debit that tried to come through yesterday!!! WTF???
So I call a "BK Support Specialist" at Chase and she informs me that "RECENT CHANGES ALLOW FOR AUTO DEBITS EVEN AFTER A BK NOTICE HAS BEEN RECIEVED".
I had her transfer me to regular customer support to have the auto-debit cancelled, but apparently an auto-debit will try to be paid twice before it stops!!
Luckily the lady at my local branch likes me and reversed todays fees and told me to come in tomorrow if the payment attempts to submit itself and she will reverse the next set.
