We have one car a chrysler 300 with First Citizens 6.14% and the payment is $524.00 per month. We have always been on time and paid in full. For well over a year. We are going to file chap 7 bk for both of us and would reaffirm this loan. BUT, I would really like to refi it now and get a lower payment so that it reduces our overhead, because then it is more likely not to burden us down the road. According to our bk attorney, it is worth about $18000 and we owe about $17000. It is in my husband's name only and his credit is REALLY good except for his income to debt ratio which is really high (but some of his bills get paid thru the corp he works for).
Any suggestions for banks or credit unions or online loan companies that would refi this for a longer term or lower interest so that the payments are lower. We are not concerned about paying more "in the long run" cause we may get to a point we can pay extra on the car payments and reduce that. We just need to get all our bills down so they will be managable after we've lost our credit cards in bk.
First Citizens said they would drop it $100 a month or forebear the next two payments. But then the payment is $425, I'd really like to get it under $300. Plus we have an extended 100,000 mile warranty on it and take really good care of it so a refi'er could be assured some certainty on the care of the vehicle.
In the BK we will owe BB&T, Capital One, BoA, HSBC, Amex. We have currently set up new accounts with Wachovia for personal and our new company we are starting (cause we are closing the old one.)
Any advice on the car refi?
