i don't know anything about self-employment taxes, but it seems to me that you shouldn't have to pay taxes on money you don't make.
-
They keep piling on since I am self employed. I don't make enough to live on to set aside a ton of money to pay my living expenses. I went on a 2nd interview today for a part-time job. I hope this helps.Originally posted by music12 View Postdebtmonster, are these taxes sneaking up on you or did you already know about them?
and, do you still have your old cars?

This is definately called "right to offset" its in the small black print at the bottom of the forms you sign when you open the accounts.Originally posted by California View PostIm about to file bankruptcy (the forms have not been filed yet) and the bank took out $1100 from my savings to pay for a car I plan on surrendering,
I thought that if a bank does this you can get the money back when you file bk, is this true?

I never called any police or fire. I never had garbage pickup. There's no school or anything I used. I lived in a dirt road with no lights. As far as I am concerned, those people robbed me blind. I didn't get any services that I actually use for all of that money.
I still think you should pay for what you use. When you call the cops, you should pay. If you don't call them, you don't pay. If you have kids, you pay. If you don't have kids, you don't pay.
I hate socialized bills for stuff that I NEVER, EVER use. I am just throwing money away that could be used to live on. The gov't is taking all of my money in hoards. I owe so many thousands in taxes right now for being self-employed, that I am so screwed right now. That idea about buying a new car for cash is now going away.

I stand corrected, my appraisal was $72,500 not $79,000 but the taxes are still $2600 per year. Yes, I do live in a city where garbage pick up and fire/police department is included. Have had to call both to my house during the years and their response is almost immediate.Originally posted by debtmonster View PostYou must have a lot of services and schools where you live to pay that... all stuff I would NEVER use... just like where I lived before. I don't like socialized bills just the way everyone is an uproar about their taxes paying for GM and hospital bills. I don't agree with any of it. I believe in paying for what you use and don't pay what you don't. I know nobody agrees with me, but that's just me. Most people don't like my opinions because I am an unorthodox person.

[QUOTE=debtmonster;308284]You must live in a nice hood to pay that. My property taxes were $1100 and I was pissed at that. I had a 1500 sq. ft. house as well.

California, if you think you already know the answer and everyone else here is talking out of their arse, then why post for opinions? Are you just looking for someone to agree with you that you are owed $1100 back to you?

They were taking money owed them and you haven't filed yet so I dont see how you would expect to get it back??? It's not preferential payments because it's $1100 divided by 3 payments, not one payment total.Originally posted by California View PostIt was Wells Fargo. I was 3 payments behind on my car loan. The loan was also through Wells Fargo (it was not a judgement levy)
I had a garnishement from my pay since last November. I only got back what I paid out since the day I filed 6/10 because it wasn't stopped till quite a few weeks later. I did not get back everything I paid out to them since last November.

Sorry, I think I interjected myself in to a multi-threaded conversation at the wrong place. This is likely due to my inherent retardation... or perhaps because I am Scottish. Who knows.
I filed yesterday.
Bank of America (BOA) was a major creditor. They wrote off my debts (as I see on my credit report) months ago. I took my sweet ass time filing.
I assume they sold the debt to a collection agency.
So... I want a checking account with them again, but I am worried they could somehow seize assets.
But... how can they do that if they already wrote the debt off?
Cheers, and have some Scotch and Haggis. Mmm!

That's what they told me they did, but I never had any CA's or anyone contact me. That's the weird thing.Originally posted by Conna View PostOK but...
What if BofA has already written off your debt as bad and sold it to a collection agency?
THEN can you open a new account with BofA and not risk them seizing assets?

Has there ever been any arguments with the creditors vs. the person filing bankruptcy? When going over my credit reports, I actually found that somebody opened a Bank of America credit card and racked it up to $4,000 and it charged off in 2008. I NEVER opened this account. They refuse to give me any information on it. I never got any calls or notices in the mail for it. Yet it's on my credit report. BoA told me not to worry about it and just let the bankruptcy wash it out.

Anyway, do the creditors all have to show up on this date as well or can they show up during that 60 days to meet with the UST?
Creditors lose no rights by not appearing at the 341 meeting. They have 60 days from the 341 to file any written objections as well as file an adverserial proceeding.
