    IRA Exemptions

I have an IRA that I contribute to on my on account; it's not through a job. Would this amount be subtracted from the total amount alloted from a my wildcard exemption in California? I understand that the wildcard exemption for a husband and spouse is $25,000if I am not taking the homestead route. Who can shed light on this?

i thought retirement accounts are exempt. is that not true in ca? if they are exempt, you don't need a wildcard to exempt them.

      Ref. IRA

My attorney said that since it's a selfdirected IRA that I established that it would be apart of what the Trustee could take unless I included it in my exemptions which would subtract from my $25,000 wildcard exemption. I am doing my own research as well, even though I paid an attorney. My attorney has been in California for only 8 months.
