    pacer help

    hi everyone

my lawyer was suppose to file my paperwork today so i signed up for pacer.

i have read that people can check there case and dont get charged for looking unless it says that there is something new to the case.

my problem is i looked pacer to check for our case number and i have already been charged 4 times am i doing it wrong? i just put in our ssn and it says it cant find anything which is fine but how do you check without being charged?

It will charge you 8 cents to do the search. It won't bill you until your balance reaches $10.00.

IDK every time I put my case number in the box at the bottom still shows 8 cents.

i think you'll keep getting charged when you look by your SSN. but once you get the case number, you would look the case up using the case number. you wouldn't be searching for a case any more. i think that's where it doesn't charge you.

why not wait for your lawyer to tell you that it's been filed and give you the case number? it's the reasonable thing to do... or you can call your lawyer's secretary and ask for the case number.

also, you might be searching in the wrong district; are you sure you logged to pacer through the website of the court in which you are actually filing?

It's probably because you are not in Pacer yet. If nothing comes up on your search you will get charged the 8 cents. Once you are in the system it will not charge you to search whether you use your case# or SS#. I was not able to look any of my info up until the day after I was filed.

Well I just found out we are filed! yeah!

So i will check pacer tomorrow. Does anybody know if they were going to show up (bad stuff) would it be before the 341 or during the 60 day wait period? thanks for all the info

hopefully the next 90 days are uneventfull! I know my phone needs a vacation from the nonstop ringing!

what do you mean "if they were going to show up (bad stuff)"??

if you mean whether your creditors would show up at the 341: mostly creditors don't; if they plan to they don't have to tell you but if they are serious about something they would usually call up your lawyer.

if you mean whether the UST will give you a hard time: mostly if the UST plans to get involved you will have heard something prior to the 341, but it also happens that you hear after. in any event, the UST has two weeks to file something after the 341.

if you mean whether some creditor will actually object to discharge (i.e. file an adversary proceeding): mostly, if they are thinking about it, you will have heard before day 60 after the 341, but there also are horror stories of something being filed on day 60 with no advance warning.

in other words: bk is not an exact science but 99% of the time people breeze through it (but worry the whole time).

i think mostly if you heard nothing by the 341 and the 341 went fine, then usually things should be ok. but there are exceptions.

I did the same thing as you and used my SNS to search and my lawyer said he had filed my paperwork and there was nothing yet. Wait until you get your case number than it will show up.

I never got a charge for looking up by my SNS even though it said I was billed for a blank page at the bottom of the screen. Like one person said unless you spend over $10 I don't think they charge you anything - so it is like the first $10 are free.

I just checked mine (first time since I got my case #) and I already had my 341 and it still says "Status: 341 scheduled" so they haven't updated anything. You would think it would at least say 341 completed.

Except the I do like the History page. My lawyers assistant is a slow poke an I have to double check to make sure stuff gets done. Like, I did my pre-discharge class a few weeks ago and I got letter from the courts saying it wasn't filed. I had to call and she is saying she never got it even though it was emailed to her. So, I had to re-email it and I saw that it was e-filed in Pacer yesterday. So if I decide to peek again and the date at the top when I bring up my case still say 7/28, I know nothing new has happened and I don't have to look at any of the other sections that bill you one page.

I like the Case Summary page too. I copied and pasted my screens into Word. My flag says MEANSNO. I got to find out what that means. Other than that nothing really helpful yet. I will probably check again closer to my discharge date.

One thing that was funny is they have your Trustees name and what town they live in. Mine lives in the same town as me. That was funny.
