    When it rains it pours!

So glad we haven't already filed!

I just spent the last 3 days in the hospital with my youngest son, who fell off a 4-wheeler, only going about 15 but fell and sustained a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain and multiple scrapes etc, 2 days and one night in icu then 1 night and 1 day in pediatrics. Insurance should cover most of it as we have an accident policy with low deductible, but don't know how it will cover follow up etc.....

I am exhausted but if we had not decided to file bankruptcy I would be hysterical. I am SOOOOO glad that I was just able to focus on my baby not worry about what was going to happen financially. I cannot believe what a relief this decision has already made in our lives. I was able to go pay cash for the things we needed at the cafeteria etc and not worry about what would happen as far as paying the bills this month.

The week has been stressful but not having the money strain made the experience tolerable!

and where was his helmet if I may ask ??? I ride semi pro motocross in some hard core desert country and I wouldn't ride my bike across the street with out a helmet and protective gear...Hope he will be OK.

He was not wearing a helmet. I know that it is easy to point a finger and find fault. He should have been wearing one but unless you were raised around a farm you wouldn't understand the mentality. These are not toys, the quads are used to get from point A to point B in a field. Not for fun, never for careless entertainment. It is not something we are happy about and my father has purchased several different helmets in different sizes, but these 4-wheelers are used like horses and we have never used helmets. That has all changed and the only thing that I can say is that the experience has been a learning one for those of us here.

We have been on quads in the mountains before and I always made my kids wear helmets because of the risk but I refuse to hold onto guilt or blame about this. He was injured helping on the farm and farms are dangerous places. We get so used to working around the equipment that sometimes we get too comfortable. We won't be making the same mistakes twice.

We feel very fortunate that the injuries were not worse.

Oh that is awful! I am so sorry for you and your little guy. I hope he has a speedy recovery and no lasting effects.

As much as the media and so many others would like to make us thing bankruptcy is the worst thing that could ever happen, for many of us, it provides a great sense of relief.

          Take care!

Best wishes to you right now. And don't feel bad about the helmet, it won't help. Concentrate on getting him well. BK will wait until he is home and better. I live in farm country and lots of farmers have the quads for getting around their farms, never seen one in a helmet. Only those that are playing wear the helmets, so I do understand.

Sorry to hear about your young son. It is funny how life works, because the BK has given you the opportunity to worry about your son without the added stress of your finances too. We just had that with my MIL, and because my DH is a motorcycle mechanic that works commission, in the past he was worried about not making money to pay the bills when his mom needed help and was in the hospital. This time which was just about 3 days after we filed, was so much easier without the added stress of the bills.

and just for the record...I was raised on a large dairy farm in Canada....nobody was pointing a finger...same way I was never allowed to use an "auger" to move feed corn to a silo.....common sense is just that...
