Schedules I/J & cutting expenses?

Since we are making considerably less money these days we have been cutting expenses where we can. We bought a voip system (ooma) and it works great so we've dropped our land lines and have no more monthly bill. Also switched to pre-paid cell phone service. The question is will these types of savings hurt me when I fill out schedules I & J? We are going to be just under the median come filing time in September. I'd like to find more ways to save money, but not if it is going to hurt my case.
