I know every lawyer is different but wanted to get an idea of what to expect. We are meeting with an attorney tomorrow. I have all my lists ready to go for him, detailing our debts and belongings, and I have the full amount of money needed. I feel I am ready to go and get the ball rolling. I am just wondering once I turn in my packet and all my information, how soon can I expect to sign papers and file? Does it normally take a week....or a month....or longer/shorter? My goal is to file right after I pay my mortgage and car payments on August 15th (1 month from today). Does that sound reasonable??

Your attorney will advise you when to file. You need to have your balances in any accounts you have and cash on hand low at that time. He will also tell you your limit.
If your timing meets with the requirements the filing can be done very quickly as most do it online now. They don't even leave their office.

Ya, he told me I would have to do it when I have less than (I believe he said) $150 (or was it $300?? I will have to ask again). That is why I wanted to do it right after I pay my mortgage and vehicle payments because then my account balances are wiped out for a few weeks until I start putting money back for the next month's house and car payments.370K Secured Debt / 53K Unsecured Debt

Yeah once your attorney looks over your papers he will advise on filing. In Indiana the rule on bank acct is under $600 (couple). So that is important. Being current on what you intend to keep is also important.
Our attorney took awhile on papers, they go by first come first serve rule, so once they got to our name things went quickly, well that is ofcourse once we said ok we are ready! LOLFiled Chapter 7 June 4 ~ 341 July 20 ~Last day of objections Sept 18~Discharged/Closed Sept 21

And ours sent us home with a packet of papers to fill out when we first saw him. It takes some time too.
And you need pay stubs for the last 6 month before the month of filing, the last two years of your fed and state taxes.
Many things that I hope you have on hand.
And another thing, make copies of everything you submit to the attorney so you have your records. Our trustee wanted some copies also and the attorney normally does not send those to them.

I called for an appointment, they told me what to bring.
He asked the questions and filled out all the paperwork.
He gave me a list of (a very few) things to bring next time.
Two business days later I went in, did the means test, signed some papers.
He said it'll be filed within two days.
He said next step is the 341 meeting in about 6 weeks, I'll get a letter in the mail with the date.
