    Trouble opening new bank account

Okay - so I wasn't very organized before I filed and I probably should have opened a new checking account beforehand - hindsight is 20/20.

Now, post-discharge, I rode through with my two mortgages and also managed to get an auto loan. Yay - I have a car!

The bad news: both my mortgage payments and my car payments are auto-debited from my checking account...or, they are when my account has enough money in it. But since I didn't reaffirm my mortgages, any money in the account naturally gets sucked out first (even if I only have $2, they take it), and if there is nothing left over, and the car payment comes through, then I get smacked with an overdraft fee.

So, my first line of defense - I stopped having my paycheck automatically deposited. I am now trying to get a new checking account with a different bank so I have more control over where my money goes and when, but the first bank I tried today said my Beacon credit score is too low to open a new account. They only pulled my credit, didn't ask for my income, work history, etc., which are all excellent. Now I'm afraid to apply at other banks because I don't want my credit pulled just to have my application denied. Any suggestions?

You could simply cancel the authorization to allow them to debit your mortgage and car payment from your account.

As far opening another account, try a small community bank they are less likely to pull credit (only chexsystems).

Those are good ideas - I would imagine they'll allow me to do that with the car payment; not so sure with the mortgage since auto-debiting is their only security that I will pay...

Try a small community bank. Those banks usually don't check anything.
