    pacer

Can someone just give me insight to the cost of this if you are just looking up things on Pacer, and not printing. Even though i have not yet filed, can i still go on it and see things?? How much does it cost for unlimited viewing?

It's .08 cents per page. But I think you have to have a balance of $10.00 or more before they charge you. I've been using since last year and I guess I don't use it that much b/c I've never been billed.

For me it's quite valuable. Orders get put on Pacer at least 8 days before I ever get them in the mail so I always know what's going on and I'm not getting a last minute surprise mailing on a Saturday.

When you 8 cents a page, what does that mean? Do you need a credit card or something at startup? Or can you just register? Should i register before filing, or will that look bad?

you can register any time. you'd be registering for the entire federal court system, which includes bk court. nobody is going to check whether you registered. in the remote case that you charge something big or luxurious between now and filing, someone might want to challenge you on when you knew you were going to file.

it's 8 cents per page; that means if you do a search for John Smith, you'd get a very long list that could itself make you bankrupt, so be careful!

you can sign up instantly with a credit card or debit card. without a credit card or debit card, things take longer. if you sign up with a credit card, be aware that once you file, your credit card would most likely be shut down so you would have to replace it with a debit card before they charge it. they give you reasonable notice before they actually charge the card. they charge once every 3 months. if you are careful, you could go through the entire bk and never pay anything because they don't charge you unless you get to $10 and if you are only looking at your own case, you are unlikely to get to $10.

anyway, instructions for pacer login are easily accessible online.

If you bill is under $10.00 the will not make you pay it. They will only send you a bill if it is over $10.00. It is 0.08 cents a page, pacer is a great tool.

I am using pacer way too much! Got my first bill, 11.54 since June 4.

Anyway on each page it tells you before you view it how much it will cost. If you click view it will then charge you. It's an interesting site really, last night I discovered on our means test it left off my kids, so Monday morning I will call our attorney to make sure they modify that. No sense losing those 2 dependents even if we fall below the median income!

justplaintired, if you are below median even without dependents, and your disposable income is low enough, i would suggest leaving the petition as it is. amendments should be made only if necessary because they naturally create some extra scrutiny (like, "hey, what did you change?").

Wow I didn't think of that. I think I will call my attorney Monday and bring the error to their attention, my guess is they will tell me the same thing. If the issue is brought up at the 341, or maybe the attorney will want to bring that to their attention. We are below by more then $10K with the 2, would have been nice if it had been right before it was sent to the trustee, we would have been even more below the median then!

                Thanks for the advice
