Thank you! It's not just renting; house prices are amazing, too. Here in central Utah, the only home we could afford was non-FHA no-foundation manufactured home on .10 acre. That was $110k.

Up near Burley ID, you can get a bigger real two-level home with fireplace and outbuildings on a couple acres... for under $80k. Outside of town, one big 1901 farm house on over a dozen acres was under $60k.

Yet my sister-in-law thinks she got a great deal in Salt Lake City, paying $175k for a condo *cough, apartment, cough*

I'm not sure if Idaho has any jobs in that area ;) But it's worth looking into! Also remember, even if you make less, you're spending less to be there. I may take a pay cut in moving from Utah, but I end up with much more spare cash per month.

As an update: The apartment just called, and wants to move us in next week! Wonderful, though sudden. We'll have to scramble to organize everything, but it's great news.
