??? about closing my WF account

What has been your experience on closing a Wells Fargo account?

I moved all but $10 to another bank last May. My attorney wants me to close the WF account before we file. I owe them about $1000 on a VISA card. Will they bring this up when I go in to close my account? Or will they just give me my $10 and send me on my way. (They don't know I'm filing BK).

I doubt they'll give you your $10 bucks back...I didn't think you could close an account that is in the negative, but I'm sure someone with more experience will come along. I have/had a WaMu checking account which later turned into Chase and I owed Chase $27k on a CC debt, I took out all but $10 and switched banks. I never closed the account, the $10 is still in there.

The $10 in my checking account is NOT a negative. It's what's left in my account. The $1000 I owe them is on a VISA card. I haven't made a payment on the VISA card since April.

If it were me I'd leave the $10 in my account but my attorney wants me to close it. I'm filing BK on the VISA card. I just want to know if they'll give me a hard time on the $1000 I owe them when I go to close my checking account.

      Sorry for the confusion

No, I don't think so. I closed my WaMu/Chase savings account just last year and as I stated, I was delinquent at the time too.

I don't think so, I do not have an account with WF but I do have an account, mortgage and delinquent cc with Bank of America. One department does not seem to care about another department. I wouldn't worry about it, the branch worker probably won't have any idea you are behind on your credit card, just close the account like your lawyer says, tell them they can keep the 10 bucks if they give you crap

liz417...and they didn't say anything about it? Boy, if only I can be that lucky. I have visions of them asking me all kinds of questions about the delinquent account and demanding a payment before they'll close my checking account. If worse comes to worse I quess I can always tell them what they can do with my $10.

LOL! No, as eddiep stated, I think they have different depts for different accounts, so it's possible that the bank teller won't even know anything about your CC accounts!

why not try calling their 800 account info line and speak to an operator. I bet they can close it over the phone.

they'll let you close the account. the banker won't even mention the amount owed on the visa... don't sweat it.

Even mortgage accounts that are in BK? I am new to Wells Fargo and they hold my mortgage and checking/savings accounts... I live in a small town and the tellers know everyone...I was wondering if they KNEW I filed for BK? Hmmm....

Oh and to close an account, you have to go to one of those people that sit behind the desk...I consider them "Tellers" too, they just sit behind the desks and probably get paid a few bucks more....

yeah, I COULD call an 800 number or go to their website and close the account there. But then I'd have to wait around for them to send me a check and...I don't know...for $10 it just ain't worth the hassle. Plus my lawyer wants it closed now! So I'll take my chances at the bank on Friday and hope they don't mention my CC account. Thanks everyone!

i don't really know why your lawyer insists that the account be closed. but you shouldn't have any problems closing it. and the $10 is yours to keep
