LOL yea a little bit off topic! I am shocked as to your saintliness myself!

I'm not saying they are the "same" in terms of consequences... I'm saying they are both illegal. Which they are on paper.

And I am a bit lost as to why I went off on this tangent... but I think it was just to say I don't think making more things illegal will solve all our problems and that just because something is "bad" doesn't mean it should be illegal.

Ok, done. ;) This is actually entertaining me at my boring day at the office.

Agreed on all items. Am glad to have kept you entertained this morning!

FYI, I'm no saint... I did operate a moped once, at the age of 17, without a license. Was never "caught", but that's my worst offense.

I think we were talking about vehicles in general and somehow that became that the Government should do more to protect us. Then that became the Government should protect us from ourselves, by outlawing things like cigarettes.

I guess I have a more libertarian view of things like this. I believe that corporations should be regulated and that the government should step in and set minimum safety standards. I do not however agree that drugs should be illegal. If I want to smoke pot in my home after a long day at work then I should have the same right as someone who smokes a cigarette or has a drink. Drugs should be viewed in the same way alcohol is. If you commit a crime while intoxicated you can be prosecuted for that crime and the penalties may be higher than normal. Doing the drug itself should not be a crime. I should be able to do as I please with my body. It is the one thing that the governement doesn't own.

I don't really think of bankruptcy as being bad either. The creditors know the risks when they offer the credit. It plays a major part in the equations they use to determine how much credit if any to give you. They gamble and usually they make more than their money back which is the purpose. I suspect we will see some major changes soon though because the bankruptcy ball is just beginning to roll.

I think that bankruptcy should be regulated though and I am glad that it is not an easy process. The creditors have a right to make money just like everyone else. I don't agree with predatory lending practices and I think that if you give someone more credit than they can conceivably pay within a reasonable amount of time then that is wrong and they should take their lumps. The problems the lenders are running into now stem from greed. They wanted every dime they could get from people and wanted them to pay on the cards for as long as possible. They keep your payments lower by charging you only slightly more than the interest every month.

If they were out to help you then they would charge higher monthly balances so that more goes to the principle every month and you can make progress faster. The reason they don't is simply greed. In my case the risk they took did not pay off.

Yes we are the ones who spent the money but many of us were given cards at decent interest rates that would allow us to pay them down. The credit card companies can change the interest rate at the drop of a hat. I can honestly say that I didn't know that my rate would change. Is that my fault? Maybe but was it made clear to me? i don't think so.

They can play their games with raising the rates and we should have no recourse to fight back?

Bad meaning can kill you or others over a short or long term.

I wish the laws were like in Judge Dread. It should be a felony for people to be more than 100 lbs over weight. People should pay steep fines for being heavy.

Cigarettes and alcohol should be illegal because look how many MILLIONS of people have died over it. A few thousand people die in the trade center and they changed all kinds of laws over it. MILLIONS of people die and the gov't does nothing but sit there and make money from it by taxing it. WHAT A SCAM! They don't care about our well-being at all. All they care about is the money. THAT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Cursing makes absolutely no harm. People choose to be offended. That's 100% voluntary. But 2nd hand smoke and smoke itself kills both the smoker and the people around him. LOTS of people die from lung cancer from 2nd hand smoke.

Many people would get totally pissed off beyond belief if they made cigarettes illegal. Guess what... THEY WILL GET OVER IT! I LOVE drinking Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Coke. If they made that illegal, guess what... "I" would get over it and drink something else. IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.

You know how a bartender is accountable for selling you alcohol and then you go out and crash and kill someone? The cashier should be accountable as well for letting a 300 lb fat women buy cookies at the checkout.

You've seen those 500 to 1,100 lb people on Discovery and Learning Channel shows where they can't get out of bed and have to be moved on a crane, etc. The people who bought those people food and contributed to their obesity should all be locked up in jail as well for causing that person to get so fat.

The gov't needs to simply crack down and make these laws to help us whether we like it or not. WE WILL GET OVER IT. We always do. Human-beings always adapt.

Wow...glad the laws aren't written by you! I have A LOT of objections to what you said and possibly was a little offended...but I don't feel its productive to respond to your opinions. Its not prudent at this juncture! LOL.

Because we are human, because of inherent greed... don't think we'll ever get to the place DM wants us to be. I like that people have choice. Yes, there are some things that government can and should do, but when it encroaches upon personal decisions and becomes more a... 1984 type society... then I'll move to the moon. I don't want more government, I know that for sure.

I actually like the Judge Dredd system... until he judges me.

No, I believe in the freedom of choice and all that. But if I don't have the freedom to do 150 MPH down I-95 because it's "possible" that somebody can die, then people should not smoke because they could also die.

Also, if you get offended at any of my posts, that offends me that you're offended. So please don't be offended. Nobody should get offended at text on a screen. It's only text and nothing more.

                Thanks.

hehe... if it was meaningless and just text then we wouldn't be here at all. Text on a screen is no different than a newspaper, article, or book and one can easily take offense at any of those things.

You don't have the freedom to drive down the road at 150 because you could kill OTHER people. If you want to smoke and kill yourself... go ahead. Just do it in the privacy of your home is my only gruff. If I want to eat some cookies when I know I shouldn't... then by George... I will.

Free will is a beautiful thing and the last thing I want the Gov't mucking around with. While you may have some good arguments there, a gov't that begins regulating our day to day lives would then begin to step on things they should not. Give someone an inch and they will take a mile.

This whole "land of the free" thing is being taken out of context. When they say it's the land of the free, they don't mean the freedom to do whatever you wish. They mean the freedom that was broken from Great Britain and the monarchy.

You should be able to eat those cookies whenever you wish just as long as you are not clinically obese. I wish they made laws for this and enforced them. Man, that would be awesome!

I want to be criogenically frozen and brought back a few hundred years later. Maybe we'll have laws for all that and stop with this slow internet crap. The cable modems and DSL we have are a total joke. The people in Japan have much faster Internet. I almost like a communist way of things, but there's things I don't like about communism neither... like the gov't is rich while the people are poor. The gov't should be just as poor as the people if they want that level playing field. F' them.

                      You down with it, G?

I wish they would allow me to smoke pot and do LSD. If you can eat your cookies, then I want to sit home all day getting high. It's only fair that if you get to do what you want to do, then I can do what I want to do.

                      The bastards.

Yeah, Aces... drop that knowledge on us. Keep us posted on any status with any kind of redemption loan and interest rate. Please post all details so others can learn.

Also ask if putting a large down payment would make any difference.

Debtmonster...don't you have a weight problem yourself? Do you think you should be in prison because of it?

Your post reads like it was written by a freshman in high school. You fail to give coherent reasons why someone should be fined or jailed for weighing more than you believe they should. You want the government to crack down on us and we'll just accept it and GET OVER IT. That happened in a few places over time. In fact, its happening today in Iran.

I say we make a law that people who should be on anti-psychotic medicines but refuse to take them be banned from forums on the internet.

P.S. These are just words on a screen. Don't be offended.

Yes, I am a fat pig and should be in jail for this! HONESTLY!!

Since I told people not to be offended at my text, now I'm not allowed to be offended at yours. Ugh!!

I wish the gov't would stick all of us fat people in prison until we lost the weight and got to a healthy status. That would be so awesome. I would love to sit in a jail cell and live for free off of tax payer's money. Free room and board! Free roof over your head. Free bed. Free food!

I know many people living under bridges right now in sweltering 103-107 degree heat that would take that ANY DAY of the week!!

And technically.....living can be bad for your health...lets just outlaw living while we're at it and all live in cyberspace bubbles. Walking outside your door should be illegal too...cause God knows what's going to happen to you out there.
