That's why I asked you about that web site above.

      Or this one:

      [url removed by admi]

Do a whois on both of them and you will see both appear to running on the same IP. Maybe one person owns both.

If it works, it makes it look like bankruptcy could be a breeze. What do you guys think?

I'm realizing just how lucky I am. I signed up for a legal plan at work (pre-paid legal) and they cover the cost for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I only have to pay the filing fee. The plan does cover chapter 13's as well, but the lawyers I talked to said that the amount the legal plan covers is no where NEAR what they need for a 13.

I'm even more thankful for pre-paid legal plan!

I have a prepaid legal plan now that covers BK... too bad my BK is already over. Too little, too late... DM, I knew you were in Ocala. I figured that one out a long time ago, and you just confirmed it, lol. Anyway, I paid $1200 including filing fee in Tampa.

Ocala is far from me. I just use that city so people know the area. There are lots of small cities all around it. One being Anthony, where John Travolta has his house and airplanes.

I paid $2000 plus the filing fees etc etc, ended up at just under $2700 total ($2674 if I remember that far back!). The $3800 seems very high given the amount debt over which you are filing.

However, I have noticed a trend, if you are in a small town without access to very many BK attorney's, the attorney's appear to charge more. Has anyone else noticed that trend?

Yeah, and my attorney got all pissed off when I told her that she was double the price of the ones in South Florida. That's why she wants to refund like 2/3rds of the money I gave her. She basically gets $1000 for paying her employee for like 2 hours of time. I got scammed so bad.

We're leaving to the new attorney in 10 minutes for our initial consultation.

Good luck! That has to be frustrating to no end. I paid 2900 for my chapter 7 and I'm single! So, I feel your pain on the money front... I actually went negative in my bank account over the weekend and ended up paying like 100 bucks in overdraft fees. I got paid today, but of course had to make up the negative balance. After we pay the rent today, will be back to basically nothing.

$3400 sounds like a ridiculous amount of money for a Chapter 7. The most expensive lawyer I met with was also the first: he wanted $1750 plus the $299 filing fee. I thought he was overpriced (and a pompous p#$%k), so I continued to shop around.

My lawyer wanted $1100, plus the $299 filing fee. (I'm single with no assets.) He was the cheapest lawyer I found, but that's not why I went with him -- he was the only lawyer I met whom I felt comfortable with. My initial consultation with him lasted almost two hours because he went over EVERYTHING I brought with me: dunning letters, lawsuit papers, tax returns, etc. None of the other lawyers I interviewed did that and I saw six or seven of them. Most of them were trying to push me into a Chapter 13 because I have some tax issues. The second-to-last lawyer I interviewed knew I was underemployed and STILL wanted to put me in a 13, even though I couldn't afford the payment. The only question he asked me, "How soon do you want to file?" In other words, "How soon will I get some money out of you?" I got the hell out of his office ASAP.

I hope you find a better lawyer, Debtmonster. A lot of lawyers are crooks and a$$holes, but there are some good ones out there.

In this forum, you really can't objectively evaluate a persons fee. There are many factors that go into a fee quote. Also, the cheaper attorneys (discount BK attorneys) also tend to limit their service. The fee will depend on geography and complexity of the case. I have seen chapter 7's range from $6,000-$10,000, yes, legitimately. It just depends on the issues. Personally, I think the cheaper attorney's are the ones doing a disservice, because they are doing nothing more than glorified document prep.

My new attorney is about $2000 + $500 for court fees. This is almost 50% cheaper than my original lawyer in Ocala. After that woman gives me my refund, I need to use that money and pay this new guy. He's really on the ball compared to the lady before. We felt SO MUCH HAPPIER talking to him. I wish I could have found a lawyer like him in Ocala. Those small towns absolutely SUCK when it comes to quality anything. You get peace and quite and nothing else. Everything is super expensive. No good deals on cars or anything.
