Extra income after filing/what to do with it

As I said in another post, I found a new job 1 week before filing. All my new job income was used for filing.

After being there a week I now know that I'll be making way more than expected.

I've told our lawyer about this and she said we don't count overtime and bonus-type pay... which is where all the income is coming from.

    It amounts to $1000+/month.

My question is this. Over the last couple of years, we've foregone major expenses like a new roof, car repairs, things like that. Do I save it?

Is it ok to spend the extra money on things like this?

I know I say "extra" but when I think about it, it's just money that we need to buy necesseties that we've foregone.

Well your filing should only include the month previous as the month you filed it does not count. Depends on the calender here I would think.
And income after the last month of the 6 month period should not count I am thinking.
Are you a chapter 7 with no assets or a chapter 13 and going to make payments.
    It will make a difference.
As you posted here I assume you are chapter 7?

Yes, sorry. I'm filing chapter 7 and keeping the house. Discharging $36,000. We own our vehicles (only worth 2500 combined).

Since January, I was laid off most of the time and just went back to work. I will be making more than I've ever made in my life.

It feels great to have a good paycheck coming in, the timing is just weird.

Hopefully, we can sail through this bk and get discharged so we can truly start fresh.

My lawyer is on vacation til the 6th. I've told her about my boost in income and she said, "don't worry about it. you'll be filed by Monday".
