I am not sure if my bank will even work with me yet.. or offer what i want
I was told to wait until filing then ask for mod and the bank would be more helpful BUT what if the process takes a long time?

No... but your discharge will delay your loan mod, more than likely. Also, reaffirmations do not affect discharges. A discharge occurs if there is no Dismissal or Conversion 60 days after the first scheduled 341 Meeting of the Creditors.

I know that my Bank instantly stopped all loan modification requests upon hearing of my Bankruptcy. I actually had a loan mod done and they were about to tell me the conditions... and blam! No loan mod.

Loan modifications are primarily based on your ability to actually pay. They will not modify a loan where you don't even have the income to deal with the post-modification payments. Also, loan mods don't always mean hundreds-of-dollars reduction of your payments. They are often done to roll arrears into the balance and/or to re-amortize the loan over 40 years (or 30 years).
