I went to an attorney, and she said not to bother filing an answer that it does not matter if I file a response. That if I do not respond they will set a hearing date before they would garnish my wages. Can they garnish my wages without a hearing? That is what I understood from her. Can they freeze my bank account before a hearing??

      Garnishing

There is a hearing.... whether or not you decide to go.
If you don't go... they get a default judgement. The attorney I spoke with here said his experience is they move to garnish about a week later.

In Florida, you don't then find out your wages are garnished until the first time you see less in your check. I wonder if this varies by state as to finding out sooner.

An answer/reply is free where I live.....

        Quoted from fair debt site:
        INDIANA:
A wage garnishment can be obtained after interrogatories are served and completed and after a motion for proceeding supplemental is heard. Garnishments filed in up Claims Court cases require a filing fee of approximately $15.00. Indiana now recognizes Voluntary Wage Assignments, which are to be signed by the debtor and the creditor, or the creditor's attorney, and submitted to the employer.

It does sound like they can't just garnish in Indiana like they do here in Florida?
