You are lost because bankruptcy is hard to understand when you first start investigating it. You've done the right thing by wanting to get information, but you need to realize that you need to do some homework first so you have the basics about how Ch 7 bankruptcy works.

Check out these websites about Ch 7 bankruptcy. They do a good job of making the whole process and possible issues around filing easier to understand -

Another excellent resource is the NOLO book on Ch 7. It's the best $22 (or $18 for the downloadable version) that you'll ever spend. Get the NOLO book here - http://www.nolo.com/product.cfm/obje...D0792C01A/213/ . Even if you use a lawyer to file, this NOLO book explains Ch 7 in a way that's very easy to understand and discusses potential problems that can arise if you do the wrong thing before filing.

If you intend to file within the next few months, then it's time to set up 3-4 free initial consultations with experienced Ch 7 lawyers in your area. Bring all your financial information (income over the last six month, expenses, etc) with you. You'll get a quick snapshot of what's going to be possible to do in your situation and also know if there are any potential issues that determine when you can file. Get going. It costs nothing but your time and will be incredibly valuable to making sound decisions about whether bankruptcy is going to accomplish what you hope it can.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

So step one is to get a second job. Can they garnish the second jobs wages too?

Haven't read all the threads.....but you can file pro-se. Just do your research first.

Sounds like your income is around $9000 a year. Were you making more money at the time the debt was incurred or is the debt just accumulated interest charges?

I ask because it sound like a lot of debt for such a low income unless it's medical related. Doesn't matter to me. I'm not judging but someone else more important then me may ask.

While I normally wouldn't recommend this I have to agree with danaf and do plenty of research and file pro-se. This is only after you tried to get a second job to pay for an attorney.

As long as your ducks are in a row you will fly through with that income.
