tinfoilhat...good to hear a lighter side of you. I know cars have issues. But not as heavy as I have had with this car. A messed up tranny. Oh, I guess one should say transmission these days. An engine that bogs down when it feels like it. A seemingly non fixable front end. BIG Noise is an issue but I have gone through tires like I never have before. After replacing front and rear tie rods, wheel hub assemblies, struts, tires and alignment. After 1k miles, the new tires are being torn apart on the edges. You can see and feel it. I will once again be replacing them in a matter of a few months. I drive 250 miles a day. Mostly in city. After $2400 in pepboy repairs I took it back to the dealer one last time. The owner of the dealership offered a free full inspection. They were unaware of my pepboy repairs. They gave me a written estimate of $1000 to replace my struts. I asked them "What were they going to do with the new stuts I had just put on?" They got real nervous and asked where did I get the repairs done? A few minutes later a rep showed me that bulletin. They kinda just walked away for a moment. That was when I stole the bulletin and left. I knew I was screwed. I was never gonna get the car fixed. That is how I came to be here.
I have no more options. I must default on this car. Never done that.
I went as high to the top of gm as I could go too, buddy. Mr Bob Lutz. I told his office straight up to come get this car. I wasn't paying another cent on it. 100k mile warranty and several trips to the dealer. Nothing got fixed. They routed me to the gm executive center in Detroit. I told them the same thing.
Payed off a new Cavalier. Got 300k miles out of her. 60k miles from 70k mile tires, always. Changed timing chain, did not need it. Rear main seal replaced, Air conditioner compressor replaced. Spark plugs and thermostat replaced twice, I think. Damn good car. But that Detroit executive I told you about really surprised me when he admitted that hundreds of very flawed cars were sold and that was why gm set his office up. I am still working with him. But I don't know. He sounds more like a gm apologist that a problem solver.
