They weren't much - believe me. A couple of hundred. I increased my exemptions on purpose after my 341.
But I was still po'd that he wanted them just by principle - you know - kick a person when they are down. The system sucks.
He sent them back to me because he said that the cost of administering the checks weren't worth it. Well GOOD! Thank you very much. I can certainly use the $$$. So for this I am thankful - I wasn't expecting this.
Then he added, if my case ever becomes an asset case, he may ask me to return them. WTH? What a damn bully statement to make. Ummmm - sorry - I hid no assets from ya, everything was fully disclosed - my case is closed....end of story. If I build up assets now - there's nothing you can do about it. What a shitty thing to say as if I should be afraid to try to succeed where I financially failed before.
Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent. Getting the checks back was a good thing. BK friends, - just remember that if you are filing now or have recently filed, increase your exemptions right after your 341. I say after your 341 because the trustee can ask for paystubs after the filing - mine did. Paying the taxes helps for your petition as it gives you less disposable monthly income. But then after - better to have YOUR money in your pocket than someone elses. The only reason I got any tax returns back was because I didn't increase my exemptions enough....it was hard to gage what would be a perfect exemption number. I went by the IRS tool and it was off a little. In fact, I thought I'd end up owing.
