    Residency Insanity!!!

As a tie in to my other thread.....

Lived in Ohio for 18 plus years. Moved to Colorado to take a better job. Lost job, now losing house. Have been here for 1 year. Family is moving back to Ohio at the end of this month with family there.

I just received a job offer in Georgia. Start 1st week of July. Family will not be coming with me. Will stay in Ohio for all of Ohios next school year.

    To the point:

Colorado won't let me file here. Thats ok.

Attorney in Ohio said I can't file in Ohio, since I'm leaving for Georgia.

Said I will have to wait 90 days in Georgia, then file there.

This seems insane... mean while no relief. It's like starting all over.

Why can't I file in Ohio?

You have to be a resident of some place for 90 days to file there. Also, if you file right after 90 days, you won't be able to use GA exemptions, but CO instead. But...CO only permits residents to use their exemptions, so you get to use federal exemptions (which are better in many respects than CO exemptions).

Thanks Joe. Appreciate the exemption insight.

I still can't believe that I can't file in Ohio. Prior to 1 year ago, I spent 18 plus years there. Almost a year to the day I'll be back there.

My wife and kids will be there for the next year plus. As of this Friday, they have a duplex address of their own. I won't be leaving untill July 1st for Georgia. Seems like there ought to be some way around this.

      Confused....
