Increased Income After Filing a Ch 7

I have passed the means test and will be filing a chapter 7 soon. I know your income is for the prior 6 months at filing, but is there any problem if I get a raise or promotion that would cause an increase in pay after the filing?

First, Congrats on the increased income. The same situation happened to me. I was over the median income but barely made the means test when I filed for Chapter 7. A month after that I got a promotion and $20K.

I was severely worried and didn't have to be. The Chapter 7 is a snapshot of your situation on the day you filed. Now if you get a raise the week BEFORE you file that could be a problem.

I understand that if your situation changes after you file, that doesn't affect your filing, but what do you say at your 341 when the trustee asks if anything has changed for you financially since you filed?

maybe the trustee shouldn't ask. but if he/she does, i suppose you have no choice but to tell the truth. if you have some control over when the increase happens, maybe you could get it delayed?
