Following the above post, if one has jewellery, then is that supposed to be surrended , to who and when?? It is tough to put a value on jewellery since it is worth much less than retail value(though the gold these days might fetch something) What if you declared 2000 dollars for some jewellery and it sells for less, will they come back for the balance???

I would do the right thing and list it. Chances are it won't get taken and if the trustee wants it then just make him an offer to pay it out in installments.
Don't list it and I guess you will find out what will happen and let us know. This way in the future if another poster asks the same question that person will learn from you.The essence of freedom is the proper limitation of Government

I find it strange how you want to not list a firearm and people act like you're a dumbass commiting a huge crime. Then it asks to list a pet, you have a pet thats verifiable since it was bought at the pound and it's just humorous that you don't want to list it. If it's a crime, it's a crime whether it's a cat or a 50 caliber machine gun.
How about a little less discrimination.

A firearm has real value as does furniture, home electronics and appliances.

Funny thing is that I was not going to list my gun since it is just an old 22, not antique just of the same vintage as myself. I figure it is worth $20, at lest that is the sticker I would put on it at a garage sale. I guess I will list it as well, I wonder what other treasures are at the back of my closet I will have to list...

I guess I'll list it. I'm having a hard time listing things because I'm back at my parents house. I never owned furnature, the bed I sleep in was handed down from my grandmother and I've had it and all my dressers, etc since I was 16. (around 20 years)
My computer sits on a handed down desk that used to be my mothers before she passed away.
I work on my own cars and all the tools I use were my fathers from when he retired as a mechanic. He never said here have them, so I guess they're not mine either.
Looking around it's pretty sad what I actually do own.
But then again my attorney said it's a cut and dry case, it'll be easy since I have little assets. I just can't lose my car. I'll probably start a new thread about other question, but I'll list the gun, so this thread is finished I guess.

I didnt use a lawyer but did go to a few for free BK consultations before i filed and both said not not list mutts/cats but do list the guns. i cant see any trustee doing a gun registration check hoping one might have some high value once in a great while. unless you just bought it using one of your creditors accts, dont worry about it either way.

Everhopeful you will without a doubt overestimate the value of your jewelry. The difference between your purchase price and the current value is huge. Think if you put it out at a rummage sale what could you get for it? That's truly the best way to price it. If you overestimate the value (which you will) you won't be asked to make up the difference.Ch 7 filed: 3/30

Where pets are concerned.
The value in listing your favorite cat, snake, dog, fish, iguana, giraffe, wildebeest, boar, or alligator is also in most districts, a chance to list corresponding expenses.
You CAN claim vet bills and food and even pet insurance.
I am uncertain about claiming extra boxes of shotgun shells.
Not a lawyer, but I don't think it would fly.
Unless it is also a pig.11-20-09-- Filed Chapter 7
