New to the Forum- initial question

    Hello!!

As the title suggests, I am new to this forum. I am also just beginning the bankruptcy process- as in, I just decided to file this week! I have decided to file pro se because a) I'm REALLY broke and a lawyer is not an option, b) I have absolutely no assets or complex situations, and c) I'm an incredibly resourceful person and I'm hoping I can do this on my own! I've already started gathering information and resources (including several helpful websites and the NOLO ebook) and I'm currently reviewing all of the forms and trying to get familiar with them all. I ask a LOT of questions, so I hope you all don't mind me picking your brains Here is the first of many:

I am planning on moving abroad in September. If things go according to plan, I should be awaiting discharge at that time. Will leaving the country pose a threat to my bankruptcy case?
Filed Ch. 7 (pro se) 6/15/09
    341 Mtg. 7/23/09
    Discharged and closed: 9/23/09

If you are filing pro se (yourself) and you will be abroad before the discharge and close... that could pose a problem. While most no-asset Chapter 7 cases will auto-discharge and auto-close, a need to attend a 2004-examination or to defend an Adversary Proceeding (AP) could put you in the unfortunate position of being unable to attend any hearings.

Again, while most go smoothly... filing pro se and moving abroad prior to at least discharge... could prove to be a bad combination. If you're prepared to return on 21 days notice, then you should be okay. Also, make sure you have a PACER account, to keep up to date. If you're out of Country, then you would check PACER daily until close.

Of course, your mileage may vary (pun intended).
    Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)
Status: (Auto) Discharged and Closed! 5/10
