Rick, from one of your last posts I think you said you were over the median income. If so, how did your lawyer put you in for a 7? Do you own a home? My lawyers trying to tell me I cant convert, cause I`m over median.

Actually way over the Median. However almost all my debt is secured. Have less than 40000 in unsecured. The secured debt gets me through the means test, and then creative budgeting took care of Schedule J.
I talked to 3 lawyers before I picked this one. I am strongly considering reporting one of them to the Bar association. He told me a much of stuff to lead me to believe that I could only do a 13, when the law is completely differant. Of course he wanted to do my 13 for me even though he said it would be tough, and would cost about 1500 more than a normal 13.
PM me as to where you actually are and I will give you the name of my attorney.

*shrugs* It is a bittersweet event. Glad to have it in, but filing does represent failure. We worked hard for 21 years, starting with literally nothing, (living in a car and her pregnant) to now, where we both have college degrees, a child with paid for college, a nice home, rental property, decent cars etc.
Now we get to start over again. *takes another big drink of brandy*
Years of planning, saving, take balgoni sandwiches for lunch, no vacations, not going drinking with co-workers, buying clothes at Goodwill all to save money to finance a real good life/retirement. Done in because DW's ex-employer could hire 2 people that could almost do her job for what she made. Renters that decided the landlord had money and it would not hurt them not to be paid and to tear the place up. Then my employer volunteering us to take a 10 percent pay cut so he could keep his profit margin up.
With our naturally conservative nature, (from living in the car days) we could have survived any two of the above 3 events. All three at once, well we read the writing on the wall and got out before we were in worse shape.
So yes I am very happy to be started on the road to starting over again.
Thanks everyone for their help now and in the future.
