I've been denied for Target, Hooters, and a couple others that are known to be BK-friendly. (And of course, I now regret having those 4 inquiries on my report over the last 2 months!)
Let me make it clear that I don't "need" a card. I've amassed a healthy amount of savings, and have a very livable budget now. I do want to rebuild my credit, though, as I am a renter and would like a house within the next 3-4 years.
I recently started working at JPMC, and they told us we can apply for an employee credit card with "lenient/tolerant/special" employee underwriting procedures. They said depending on the situation, the limit may be very low at first, but that "most everyone" will qualify under the employee terms.
For my particular position, I was told a CR would not be pulled during the hiring process. I haven't checked for any inquiries myself, but I do know that I made it thru the hiring process, obviously, and I didn't sign anything giving permisison to pull my CR. However, I did do fingerprinting and an extensive background check, and they also verified every single employer I've ever had. I'd be willing to bet somehow they know already that I filed BK, and it just didn't matter to them as far as employment is concerned. Also, FYI, I did not have any Chase accounts in my BK. I was an authorized user on my ex's Chase account, and he's let it go "bad," but that's not my legal responsibility.
My question is, should I go into the Chase employee banking center and talk to a financial advisor? Let them know before I apply for the card that I have a recently discharged Chap 7? Then if they say no way, I just won't apply. I guess I'm just worried because if my BK is "news" to Chase, can they then find a way to kick me out of my job? I know what everyone says; that employers will cite other reasons when really it's because of the BK.
So do you all think it's worth a shot?
