employee credit card. should i apply?

I've been denied for Target, Hooters, and a couple others that are known to be BK-friendly. (And of course, I now regret having those 4 inquiries on my report over the last 2 months!)

Let me make it clear that I don't "need" a card. I've amassed a healthy amount of savings, and have a very livable budget now. I do want to rebuild my credit, though, as I am a renter and would like a house within the next 3-4 years.

I recently started working at JPMC, and they told us we can apply for an employee credit card with "lenient/tolerant/special" employee underwriting procedures. They said depending on the situation, the limit may be very low at first, but that "most everyone" will qualify under the employee terms.

For my particular position, I was told a CR would not be pulled during the hiring process. I haven't checked for any inquiries myself, but I do know that I made it thru the hiring process, obviously, and I didn't sign anything giving permisison to pull my CR. However, I did do fingerprinting and an extensive background check, and they also verified every single employer I've ever had. I'd be willing to bet somehow they know already that I filed BK, and it just didn't matter to them as far as employment is concerned. Also, FYI, I did not have any Chase accounts in my BK. I was an authorized user on my ex's Chase account, and he's let it go "bad," but that's not my legal responsibility.

My question is, should I go into the Chase employee banking center and talk to a financial advisor? Let them know before I apply for the card that I have a recently discharged Chap 7? Then if they say no way, I just won't apply. I guess I'm just worried because if my BK is "news" to Chase, can they then find a way to kick me out of my job? I know what everyone says; that employers will cite other reasons when really it's because of the BK.

So do you all think it's worth a shot?

Just realized I should've put this in the "after discharge" section of the forum. I'm unsure how to move it... can a a moderator move for me, please?

Just be careful that your card is not limited to expense on behalf of the business only.
I know of a guy that got fired for putting $600 for Xmas on his US Civil Service CC.
He knew he could not do that and did it anyway.

Has it been more then three months since you've been hired? - in most states they have the 3 month trial period when an employee can be let go for any reason under any circumstances.

It's a personal credit card with employee terms, not for biz expenses. And yes, I'm still in my 90-day probation. So I should probably wait until I am not!

I would definately wait a bit. Let your BK and your job age a bit.

If you are an "at will" employee (most people are), they can let you go at any time for any reason. Read the letter you signed when you were hired or the letter you received when you were hired. It will state your terms. You are correct that they may negatively view you for your BK and could look for another reason to let you go because you cannot be fired just for filing BK. Unless you have an extreme need to have that account, give yourself another six months to one year and establish yourself jobwise there before applying. You've just been hit with a lot of inquiries after filing and your situation shows others that not everyone gets approved for credit after coming out of a Chapter 7.

Thanks, Flamingo. I definately agree now that I should wait. And I'm glad to be an example here for those people who think credit is kind of easy after a BK -- for some it apparently has been, but don't count on it. I've only pulled 1 of my reports, and my score was low 600's -- not good, but not the worst out there. I also had good payment history on my credit cards until 3 months before filing, and my vehicle (which I surrendered) was current at the time of filing. I'm just glad I'm not in a situation where I *need* credit!
