thank goodness it is over....I was worrying myself sick, couldn't sleep for a week. And it turned out to be nothing!!!!
I already knew ahead of time that my attorney wouldn't be there, he called me the day before to tell me that he was sending another lawyer to represent me. Thanks to this forum, I already knew that was a common practice.
I splurged on the $21 parking next to the building, I was too nervous to walk five or six blocks. I met with my "attorney" and he briefly told me that my TT was an accountant, a nice lady and that my case was very uncomplicated. He also gave me a green brochure, saying that the TT would ask me if I had read it.
I got to the room at 9:30, my meeting was set for 10AM. Luckily, I was 3rd in line for the 10AM meetings. So I got the chance to watch several other meetings. About five people were no shows, which surprised me. The TT seemed very fair, but nothing was slipping past her. One case she was sending to the UST because the guy only made $4,000 a month and he had over $350,000 in CC debt. Also, she asked him 4 times if he made any profit from a home he sold a few years ago, and he wouldn't give a straight yes or no answer.
When I sat down, I was sworn in, and she asked me:
Did you read the green brochure?
Did you read your BK petition before you signed it?
Is everything in the BK petition true and accurate?
Any needed corrections to tell me about?
No creditors were present, so I was free to go.
She questioned most people a little more that she did me, but almost none of the meetings were more than 2 minutes. I'm sure as long as everyone was 100% honest, they had nothing to worry about from that TT.
I only saw one creditor show up; they were objecting because apparently the debtor had a BK discharged 6 years ago, so they were saying that the debtor wasn't entitled to another.
I hope this posting will help put some people at ease, like this forum helped put me at ease.
