Cancel Ins. to help pay BK attny.?

We will be filling BK chapter 7. We have a House in another city that we are not keeping and no longer live in due to a layoff, we had to move back to our home town for a job and now rent a mobile home. With our income tax return this year we paid our Homeowners ins. in full for the year.
I believe i know the answer to this but i was thinking of canceling the insurance NOW, so i could get a refund of some of that money to help pay the BK Attny. and get this ball rolling. We are 1 month behind on the home and will not be paying for it anymore because we just cant.
But im not sure what will happen if i do that. Or is that even an option? My husband says no, but i wanted to see what you all thought?

You might want to call the insurance agent and ask them to change the policy to liability only (and not contents!). You may be able to save a few hundred dollars... but probably nothing specific.

You do want to carry active liability and structure insurance when you have a home in another town/city/state/country!

What you do is stop paying on the home and use that money. Also, if your credit cards are eating you alive, there is a source as well. By source, I mean stop paying them... and use the money to help pay for the lawyer.
